The Celebrant Fella Alden Thomas - Independent Marriage and Civil Union Celebrant

29/09/2022

After some careful consideration and re assessing my work load, I have decided to make some changes to the way The Celebrant Fella is going to do things.

These are decisions I have not made lightly.

As you may all be aware, we sold up in town and purchased a small farm 12 months ago. The work required to keep this farm running is enough to keep anyone out of mischief, not taking into account that I still have a day job, and have a position on a Board on behalf of the Council.

Something has to give.

Therefore, from now on I will only be preforming registry style or ‘Pop-up’ weddings at home in our garden. I still wish to perform marriages, I just simply do not have the time to commit to writing more personalised ceremony’s that best reflect the couple. This is why I haven’t stopped completely or resigned from being a celebrant all together.

I will continue to do the personalised ceremony’s I currently have booked in.

Alden Thomas – The Celebrant Fella.

Well folks, that’s a wrap for this seasons weddings. I would like to thank all my lovely couples…. Being a part of your nuptials has been great with many memories made.

Here is a picture from one of my weddings where old bugger-lugs here, inadvertently said the wrong name during the ceremony. I don’t think I’ll live that one down any time soon! 🤦‍♂️

Next season is already gaining momentum with a couple of weddings already booked, so if you’re thinking of a date, please get in contact.

The government today announced that on Tuesday night we will move to Alert Level 3 for areas south of Auckland.
Therefore, Births, Deaths and Marriages have advised that the issuing of marriage and civil union licences can resume – however, this does not mean they can immediately be used.

Areas under Alert Level 3: While weddings can occur, this is under strict conditions. Celebrants and couples must comply with all alert level rules.

Areas under Alert Level 4: Marriages cannot occur unless all parties including the witnesses and celebrant are in the same bubble (very unlikely). Contact us if you believe you should be an exception

Celebrants will be notified of any further changes to the issue of marriage licences.

Remember – marriage licences are valid for three months. If one cannot be used due to the Alert Levels, BD&M will issue a full refund to the couple.
Please continue to always follow the advice from the government and Ministry of Health:

As I advised the other day in my update, I have decided not to book in any further marriages until at least the new year. I am already booked up in October and November 2021 and March 2022, and with the uncertain environment we live in, it would be unfair to those already booked in, just in case we have to postpone and juggle dates around. We as a family also have to factor in a shift of house at some stage over the next 4-6 weeks.

I hope everyone keeps well and we all get through this soon

Evening everyone, I've just encountered a problem with the links to my website and it seems the company that handled my .co.nz domain has fallen off the side of the planet. I'm not sure how long this has gone on for, but hopefully I've now fixed it. Yes, I still have a website!!😜

After the announcements from the government, Births, Deaths and Marriages has suspended the issuing of marriage and civil union licences while all of New Zealand is at Alert Level 4.
Couples can still give notice of their intended marriage but licences will only be issued if there are exceptional circumstances (such as deathbed weddings).
Marriage licences that have already been issued remain valid but cannot be used during Alert Level 4, unless all parties including the witnesses and celebrant are in the same bubble (very unlikely).

I have decided that since Kirsten is an essential worker being a Dairy Farmer, and after advice from her employer, I will not be breaking our bubble under any circumstance (ie: a deathbed wedding)

Further to this, I will not be taking on any marriages until further notice. I am already booked up in October and November and with the uncertain environment we live in, it would be unfair to those already booked in, just in case we have to postpone and juggle dates around. We as a family also have to factor in a shift of house at some stage over the next 6-8 weeks.

I hope everyone keeps well and we all get through this soon

It’s quite nice to get a surprise card in the snail mail. Especially one that thanks you for being part of some lovely peoples special day.
Thank you to Mr and Mrs Evans for this wee surprise! 🥰

Today I preformed my last wedding for this season. It’s been a long one, but I’ve enjoyed every ceremony that I have been lucky enough to be a part of.
I’d like to thank all those couples that have trusted me to sign you up to the world of marriage. 🥳
Now for a bit of a rest over winter (in the workshop restoring and building things) then back into next season which is booking up fast!

Wow what a wedding season this year! I’ve met and managed to marry a number of lovely couples!
I’ve been swamped with inquiries about next season and year, which is great, but I’m now having to turn people down for March especially, which makes me a little sad, but at least everyone is getting in early enough to be able to find a celebrant in time. 👍

If any of my couples are looking to apply for their marriage licence online (https://marriages.services.govt.nz) it is temporarily unavailable due to maintenance. It is expected the service will resume before this weekend. If this is going to take longer, Celebrants will be updated on Friday night.

Nice day for a wedding.... 😃🥰

Almost back to normal.... Level 1 here we are.....
Many of the couples that have been 'put on hold' since March have now rebooked and my weekends are beginning to fill up fast for the next wedding season. If you are in the process of looking at venues etc and you are thinking about booking me as your celebrant, or you are wanting wedding vehicles, please get in touch sooner rather than later. 👍
