«When the photographer becomes the subject, the learning happens in a completely different way.»
These cinematic portraits were created by photographer Chris Knight — and this time, I was the one in front of the lens.
I actually enjoy being in front of the camera. Not because it always feels comfortable, but because it offers a completely different kind of learning. To physically experience what it feels like to be photographed — to be directed, to wait for the light, to find calm, and to trust the photographer — teaches me something I could never fully understand just by sitting and watching.
Chris was one of the speakers at Fokus 2026, the annual national conference of the Norwegian Photographers’ Association. He is also one of my great living role models as a photographer. Experiencing how he works, not only from the audience but also in front of the camera, was both inspiring and deeply valuable.
Thank you, for these powerful cinematic portraits and for reminding me how much there is in a gaze, in light, and in presence.

Disse cinematiske portrettene er skapt av fotograf Chris Knight — og denne gangen var det jeg som satt foran linsa.
Jeg liker faktisk godt å være foran kamera. Ikke fordi det alltid føles komfortabelt, men fordi det gir en helt annen type læring. Det å kjenne på kroppen hvordan det er å bli fotografert — å bli instruert, vente på lyset, finne roen og stole på fotografen — lærer meg noe jeg aldri fullt ut kan forstå bare ved å sitte og se på.
Chris var en av foredragsholderne på Fokus 2026, Norges Fotografforbunds årlige landsmøte. Han er også et av mine store nålevende forbilder som fotograf. Å få oppleve hvordan han jobber, ikke bare fra salen, men også foran kamera, var både inspirerende og utrolig verdifullt.
