This is the official FB page of "DISC" Dutch International Storytelling Centre. What is ‘Storytelling’?
A ‘Storyteller’ is someone who stands in front of other people and tells a story. The Craft of Storytelling:
It is a traditional oral craft; started by cave men and cave women, handed over for generations, improved and polished over centuries and that keeps its roots within any culture, anywhere, all over the world. Traditionally the Craft is used in 4 fields:
The Storyteller Entertainer
The Sto
ryteller Educator
The Storyteller Carer
The Storyteller Historian
Of course, often these fields are combined in someway.
“DISC” focuses on the Craft.

Hi, all the DISC friends and followers.
This is Terra, and I am about to make my point about all the recent posts here.
Years ago, Michael and I co-founded DISC as a V.O.F. company in the Hague, with an equal 50/50 partnership. I devoted years of my energy, creativity, and care to building this project.
Many of DISC’s services, programs, and public presence were initiated or managed by me; storytelling workshops, coaching, community engagement, marketing efforts and Beach Cafe edition—these were not just professional contributions but deeply personal investments.
And this way of management did not change when DISC became Stichting (NPO) a few years ago.
However, as time passed, I found myself increasingly distant from the direction DISC was taking.
In September 2024, I informed Michael that I intended to leave the company.
He expressed a wish for me to stay or to continue in partnership through a new company.
But after a formal internal vote, I was asked to leave DISC altogether.
Since then, I’ve sought a respectful and transparent transition: requesting clarity around the use of my intellectual property, public acknowledgement of my departure, and a professional handover.
Unfortunately, most of my requests were disregarded except for the intellectual property of my direct services and products.
No public statement was made.
My contributions remain unacknowledged.
My appearance on the website disappeared one day, all at once, except for my last product of DISC Unlimited.
And to this day, there has been no response to my repeated communication efforts.
This silent erasure is deeply disappointing—not only on a personal level, but as a matter of professional principle.
(And it is painful that all of this silent treatment took place while my father was passing away....)
Today, I am choosing to speak up.
Not in anger, but in truth.
I’m grateful to everyone who supported me along the way.
My creative journey continues, independently, with even more clarity, courage, and integrity.
I look forward to sharing the next chapter of my work with all of you.
With gratitude and strength,
Terra Norihiro Terazawa.

Hi, all the DISC Followers
This is Terra,
And to continue announcing my leave and explain why it is a tragedy, I shall start by telling a story.....
------------
Do you know by the way the legend of Table Mountain???
The other day Michael and I are climbing up the ladder to the peak of the Table Mountain.
As we go up, and after a brief hour of sunshine, the cloud thickens, the mist turns to rain, the ladders get slippery, and our clothes get soaking wet mixed with rain and sweat.
I see Michael is wearing a normal leather shoes, and taking a toll on his legs and his steps.
My breath is getting short, but I've been always a nature guy, I keep my steps firm and climbing ahead of him.
By the time we reach to the top, the mist is so thick we cannot see a meter away, we don't know where to preceed, just like we are lost in the world of legend like Van Hunks.
On the moment we reach to the very peak, to the belly button of the table, we are so exhausted and we collapses and just lay on the ground.
But the second later, the wind blows and the mists are pushed away, the tablecloth is being pulled.
And we see the whole view of the Cape, the Robbin Island, the beautiful coast line, and the wide endless sea.
And we get up and watch this view together a while....
Later Michael recalls this moment is the moment, he was convinced that if we could go through this wild adventure together, as well we could go through the other adventure.
A few days later he proposed me to establish DISC together.
A few months later I came to the Netherlands the first time for our gig, and since then this story was kept being told to our audience member. to this day....

Hi, all the DISC followers and friends, this is Terra.
This is sad news, or even to say a tragedy.
I have been working as a Co-Director at DISC from the very beginning, and for the last few years as a Managing Director.
However, now my path is separating from it....
And there is a sadder story to share in the coming days.
However, I will soon start a new initiative from all the experiences I have gained from working at DISC and also from my artistic journey, and I want you to stay in touch with me.
What is the new initiative about?
I cannot tell all about it, yet, it's gonna be a lot about community, authenticity, humility, and transformation.
Would you stay in touch with me?
I would say you'd better do so, unless you don't have any FOMO!

So, how did we get started?
Well, it all started with a trip to Edinburgh and a visit to the Scottish Storytelling Centre...
The Dutch International Storytelling Centre was founded in January 2013 by Storyteller Michael Driebeek van der Ven.
But 3 years earlier Michael, together with his companion Caja van der Poel, performed at the famous Edinburgh Festival. One day they were invited at the Scottish Storytelling Centre and immediately felt at home; such an inspiring place filled with stories, soul and wonder; a true Heart of Storytelling!
Back home Michael searched for a place just like that in the Netherlands but he could not find it anywhere. All across the country he found the most wonderful, inviting and promising storytelling initiatives but none of those made him feel the way he had felt in Edinburgh.
“Than I'll set it up myself.” he said.
In Capetown he met Japanese Storyteller Norihiro Terazawa and climbed Table Mountain with him. Straight up, through heavy fog and humid air, they climbed their way to the top. There they were treated to a perfect ocean view. On this crossroad of Oceans and Africa, it became clear to them: "Let's build this home to the stories together!".
The Hague, with its International character, became the perfect setting for DISC. At Johannes Court, with its good spirited Brothers of St. John and its blessed atmosphere, and Francine de Graaf joined as associate storyteller, now, DISC has found a perfect home...
