Roodkapje offers a unique multidisciplinary breeding ground for young talent in a dynamic, riotous and multi-voiced program. Our location is both an exhibition venue, concert hall, nightclub and hamburger restaurant. The cultural program happens in every nook and cranny and from noon till the early morning hours. We believe a hamburger can be art and celebrate both the low- and the high brow. We travel beyond existing art forms and break through boundaries and binaries. Roodkapje was founded in Rotterdam in 2000 by Eric den Hartigh. Over the years, Roodkapje has grown into a multidisciplinary platform for presentation and talent support for young artists, musicians, performers and programmers in the heart of Rotterdam. Roodkapje is multi-voiced, energetic and supportive and offers a space to explore, experiment and execute. At Roodkapje you can move from mosh pit to hacking workshop to delicious (vegan) kapsalon. Our program is mostly produced in-house by the residents in the Hamburger Community of Art and Live. This nine-month residency houses six people every year who develop their ideas supported by Roodkapje’s staff, visiting mentors and experts from the cultural field. The artists and event-programmers work together to create interdisciplinary happenings and publications. These ideas are presented directly to our audience, making the public program into an experimental test-site for unpredictable and unprecedented accidents. Next to the Hamburger Community, Roodkapje works closely together with co-producers and local partners that fit within our vision and who mentor the residents. Cucumber Time is back!
On Sunday the 27th of July

Every summer volunteers host cosy gatherings with performances in and around to gently float on a summer haze.
This year Cucumber Time is set for Sunday July 27th. Curious how acoustic songwriting goes together with drag fashion? Join us at 13:00 and get yourself a delicious lemonade while you are at it.

usually behind the burger-scene in the kitchen, will play us some lovely acoustic guitar songs accompanied by producers/multi-instrumentalists Quincy Fortes and Dominic Milder in the realms of Nick Drake and Elliott Smith.

For the fashion performance by the strawberry thief we cannot tell you anything yet but: be there, you don’t want to miss it!

Next year, we’ll be back with a fresh anarchive, newly designed by artist-designer Yara Valente on our new location 👀 with new pieces by more anarchivists who will capture and anarchive the Happenings of the upcoming Hamburger Community residents (Dalal Mitwally, Gamze Öztürk, Goretti Pombo, Lon Luna, and oji nauli) in their own unique way.

We would like to invite you to celebrate the release of Inner_basement V-A Cassette featuring bands from the Rotterdam Underground on June 27th, 2025.🗯

Inner_basement will produce the cassettes, a Rotterdam-based diy label run by Loveth Besamoh. This event will be in collaboration with hiddenbehindmist an event promoter and visual artist from the Rotterdam underground scene. This night will be showcasing the new signings to Innerbasement presented with a split cassette.

Daze in Bed🌛 is a Rotterdam based band with shoegaze psychedelic sounds. Influenced by a lot of 80's 90's and current dream pop bands such as Cocteau Twins and Beach House. BED makes a beautiful mix of melancholic, dreamy and contrasting abrasive textures, leaving you in a soothing trance.

thrilled⚡️ is a Rotterdam-based shoegaze band founded in April 2022 by Edward Smith and Devon van Wijngaarden. The band initially started as a way for van Wijngaarden and Smith to bring their solo music to life with a full band. After a period of rotating through different members, they now have a permanent lineup consisting of: Edward Smith on vocals/guitar, Devon van Wijngaarden on vocals/guitar, Minne Davids on drums, and Ana Hernandez Barrera on bass. Thrilled’s sound is heavily inspired by shoegaze, a genre where the guitar sound takes center stage and is often so heavily processed that it’s barely recognizable as a guitar. By layering many different effects on top of each other, they create a dreamy, melancholic soundscape.

Progress Bakery by .niemi is an intimate, poetic album full of questions, loosely connected by sound, language and emotion. Her music feels like a gentle act: vulnerable, careful and full of meaning.

Eliza Niemi knows to leave some questions alone – to let juxtaposition and tension be the proof. It doesn’t have to be hard. The feelings and revelations they provoke rise in the heat. The smell is sweet. Crispy on the outside and soft all the way through. She playfully slip-slides through words and sounds and images, delighting in surprise, skimming ideas like stones cast across clear water, touching down briefly with uncommon grace.

Dear Roodkapje community,

We need your help.. that is, we want to pick your brains and consult your feelings about something dear to our hearts: the new environment for our anarchive. In March, we launched an Open Call looking for brilliant artist-designers who would be interested to work with us in the long breath. The commission? To design and build an exhibition and gathering space to hold, display and activate our anarchive, the exhibition that we've been slowly developing since last year. Many creative minds applied and our jury, consisting of Carine Zaayman (), Manique Hendricks (), Jeanne van Heeswijk () and Dennis Muñoz Españada (), had their work cut out for them. After careful deliberation, they presented us with a short list of three: duo Hilde Onis and Jasmijn Muskens, Yara Valente and Leyla Hepsaydir. And so we enter phase 2: making and presenting prototypes, that translate the artist-designers' vision from paper to material.

All participants receive a small budget towards the design and production of these prototypes. On Thursday 15th of May, they will present their prototypes to you, Roodkapje's community of volunteers, significant others, residents, regular visitors, staff and whatever curious creature that wanders in that night. After presentations of each prototype, it's time to give us your feedback. Your opinions will weigh heavy for the final decision made by Roodkapje's office staff.

Derozan and Luke Cohlen join forces for a second time, inviting Mangruv as an instrumentalist into their DJ set. The two connect through a multi-deck, non-linear mixing style that is characterized through constant surprise and improvisation.
