🎤 Welcoming Nieuwe Nor to our regional network of congress partners

We’re excited to welcome poppodium Nieuwe Nor in the city of Heerlen as the 1st official partner outside Maastricht - within the new regional structure of our convention bureau.

📍This milestone marks an important step in the launch of a broader collaboration between the Province of Limburg, the cities of Heerlen, Maastricht, Venlo, Sittard-Geleen, and the four Brightlands campuses — joining forces to position Limburg as a leading destination for knowledge-driven events.

With two modern halls, excellent technical facilities and a vibrant cultural atmosphere, poppodium NIEUWE NOR is a unique venue for conferences and business events. Located near the Brightlands Smart Services Campus, Nieuwe Nor offers an ideal setting for events in AI, data science and urban transformation — fields in which Heerlen excels.

🫶CONGRESS NEWS From 1 to 3 October 2026, MECC Maastricht will host the Annual Scientific Meeting of the European Society of Breast Imaging (EUSOBI) — a leading European congress dedicated to breast cancer diagnostics.

The event brings together radiologists, researchers, and healthcare professionals from across Europe to exchange knowledge, clinical expertise, and cutting-edge developments that contribute to earlier and more accurate breast cancer detection.

After previous editions in cities such as London, Berlin, Barcelona, Rome, and Paris, we are honoured that Maastricht has been chosen as the next host city.

This milestone is the result of strong regional collaboration — with special thanks to radiologist Dr. Marc Lobbes, working in close partnership with MECC Maastricht and the Maastricht Convention Bureau.

The congress will also help strengthen cross-border cooperation between five major medical institutions in our region:
Maastricht UMC+, Zuyderland, UZA, UZ Leuven, and Uniklinik RWTH Aachen.

Symbolically, the congress takes place during Breast Cancer Awareness Month — a timely reminder of the importance of early detection, research, and international collaboration.

BREAKING NEWS: Leading global stroke conference coming to Maastricht in 2026: 5,000 international participants to attend European Stroke Organisation Conference

In 2026, Maastricht will welcome one of the most influential international conferences in stroke care and neurology:
the 12th European Stroke Organisation Conference from 6 to 8 May 2026. After previous editions of the event held in Munich, Helsinki, Basel and other cities, the conference will take place at the MECC Maastricht, adjacent to the Maastricht UMC+ and Universiteit Maastricht’s medical faculty.

Over 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to attend this edition. All the hotel rooms in the Maastricht area will be booked, transport companies will offer customized solutions, and hospitality and event venues will be ready to welcome thousands of international guests. Maastricht hosts 1st Winegrowing Congress in the Netherlands - May 2025

🍇Maastricht is about to host the first-ever Winegrowing Congress in the Netherlands – a unique cross-border event for winegrowers and professionals working with regional wine or active in wine tourism.

Science, sustainability & innovation meet art in the Maastricht region

The 'Sustainable Chemistry & Innovative Healthcare Meets Arts Event' took place at Brightlands Chemelot Campus, Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus and MECC Maastricht during TEFAF.

Together with Prof. Yvonne van der Meer (Universiteit Maastricht, Koninklijke Nederlandse Chemische Vereniging-KNCV), Dr. Tom van Mulken (Maastricht UMC+) and Prof. Maarten Honing (Universiteit Maastricht) we welcomed leaders from scientific associations and networks to explore groundbreaking innovations at the campuses.

This annual event not only strengthens regional visibility and fosters future partnerships but also showcases conference facilities in the beautiful Maastricht region.

As of January 2025, the Maastricht Convention Bureau (MCB) proudly welcomes Van Oys Maastricht Retreat as a new partner within its extensive network of over sixty members. This luxurious hotel and event venue, situated in the historic Castle Oost in Eijsden-Margraten, will officially open its doors just before the start of TEFAF Maastricht in early March 2025.

𝗕𝗜𝗚 𝗦𝗖𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗕𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗨𝗠 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 📍

On 28 and 29 October 2026, over 1,000 representatives of European high-tech companies and major research organisations will descend on MECC Maastricht for the 2026 edition of the Big Science Business Forum (BSBF 2026). They will meet to exchange the knowledge necessary for exploring partnerships in the field of high-technology development.

This two-day conference is organised jointly by the Netherlands and Belgium, specifically by the Dutch network of Industrial Liaison Officers (ILO-net) and the Belgian technology trade association, Agoria.

The organisers will also receive support from Dutch and Belgian ministries (Economic Affairs; Education, Culture and Science; Belgian Science Policy Office) and the Provincie Limburg. Previous editions of the Big Science Business Forum were held in Copenhagen (2018), Granada (2022) and Trieste (2024).

Securing BSBF 2026 is the result of cooperation with several regional and national partners, including the Dutch ILO-net, the Belgian Agoria, Klinkhamer | conferences & events, MECC Maastricht and Maastricht Convention Bureau.

The contract with MECC was officially signed this week at MECC Maastricht by Jan Visser, Coordinator for National Institute for Subatomic Physics - Nikhef Industrial Contacts and ILO-net; Arjen van Rijn, Nikhef Institute Manager; Frank Mimpen, MECC Maastricht Commercial Director; and Sandra van den Berk, MECC Maastricht Business Development Manager (in picture together with Maastricht Convention Bureau and Klinkhamer conferences & events.
