Donderdagavond is hét moment om te ervaren wat uiteenlopende muziekgenres te bieden hebben en waarom ze de moeite waard zijn om te beluisteren. Every week, we bring you new and lesser known, but experienced musicians whom you didn’t realize were around and are worth checking out. Thursday is the night to come check out which varying genres of music have to offer. We like bands, rappers, knobturners and fadersliders who are like ourselves. After a successful first edition, team UP is once again bringing you the best present you’ll ever receive. On Thursday, December 4th, the CLUP of Sinterklaas will open its doors once more! Forget pakjesavond as you know it and let yourself be surprised by this special, cozy Sinterklaas CLUP edition. Come dance the night away in the café! A new, festive line-UP is ready and waiting for this edition.

KRONISCHE VERMOEIDHEIT ():

An evening with ‘Kronische VermoeidHeit’ is a unique experience. It’s both a night out and a concert. It’s the pounding of the kick drum, the rumble of the synth bass. It’s the analog synthesizers, everything live and everything united under a driving techno beat. If you’re looking for a night of unrestrained madness, ‘Kronische VermoeidHeit’ is the place to be. The stage is packed with electronic instruments, mixing consoles, and effect modules. The combination of these three musicians creates a unique sound. It’s repetitive and hypnotic, but also organic and playful. All of our performances are almost entirely improvised, making every show completely different. This is an act you don’t want to miss live!

ARISTOTALLOSS ():

Aristotalloss is the party philosopher of the North. Unthinkably sick bangers follow one another in rapid succession, throwing the dance floor into total chaos. Nothing ancient here, just nineties, zeroes, and tens straight in your face. Aristotalloss is back!

PRAATSTOEL (DJ SET) ():

Praatstoel is here for the things you do want to hear. With their mix of hard-hitting hip-hop, danceable electro, and boundless enthusiasm, Praatstoel gets even the stiffest folks moving. During the CLUP of Sinterklaas, they trade the Praatstoel for the Turntable, treating every ear to a wide range of tunes that are, objectively speaking, easy on the ear. Never the same, but always danceable.

❕NEXT WEEK:

MAX HELL ():

Dirty, rattling guitars from the Amsterdam music scene. Max Hell started playing live in 2021, seemingly out of nowhere. Hell’s music existed for a longer time, as bedroom experiments with his laptop microphone. He formed a band with his old friend Nathan Schipper, later joined by Mirjam Alexander and Joy Burgers. Now they’ve played support shows for Dutch music legends like Personal Trainer and Sophie Straat, gaining a reputation of mixing poppy rock songs with sudden screams from the gut.

Everything rattles, squeaks and creaks; but if you prick up your ears, Max Hell’s songs are actually quite pleasant to listen to. At Hell it’s all about those songs: simple, compact pop songs that are performed with a pleasingly gritty edge. Crowned by 3voor12 as an “indie-underdog,” the unsettling honesty of the Amsterdam musician does indeed call to mind the raw work of the Velvet Underground and the plaintive cries of the late Daniel Johnston.

SHANTI RAYA (.t.raya):

Shanti Raya is a multi-instrumental singer, songwriter and producer. He draws inspiration from all corners of life, weaving an eclectic tapestry that defies easy categorization. That eclecticism is an essential part of him and is reflected in everything he does. In addition to being a musician, he is a physicist and a professional chef, and every so often he takes up a new art, hobby, or sport. Yet within this diversity lies a clear unmistakable voice. His music pulses with groove, introspection and playful wit. Shanti moves effortlessly between moods, making you sing, dance and stand in place with chills running down your spine. The absence of a fixed framework gives him the perfect canvas to be pure and sincere, and to sing exactly as he feels. Emotions bloom in every hue, and he gives voice to them all.

Alongside the acts, DJ Disco Diekstra will serve the Simplon Café with some lovely tunes during the evening.

NEXT WEEK! 🔥

WILSON A. (.a.band):

What started out as a bunch of separate poems in a shared Google Drive folder evolved into Wilson A: a Haarlem-based indie collective that balances between DIY-indie, garage rock, and post-punk. Wilson A. makes sharp, ironic anthems about mobile phone addictions, marathon runners, and hopeless parties you should have probably already left two hours ago.

With an infectious combination of danceable grooves, unpolished guitars, and old-school synthesizers, Wilson A. creates a live show that is simultaneously quirky and compelling. At its core, their music is convincing, honest, and fun. Moving away from the typically darker themes in post-punk, Wilson chooses to approach current-day problems from a cheerful and absurdist perspective.

THIRD DEGREE BURNS ():

Third Degree Burns is an alternative R&B- and rock-inspired band that blends soulful vocals with raw instrumental energy. Fronted by Amber (vocals and keys), and completed by Enrico (guitar), Chris (bass), and Jacob (drums), the group combines heavy guitar tones, funky rock drumming, and groovy bass lines into a sound that’s both powerful and playful.

Drawing inspiration from the smooth vocal style of Erykah Badu, Third Degree Burns bridges the gap between groove and grit, offering music that can be loud and electric, or slow and sultry enough to make you sway… or maybe even strip.

BRUNO STORM ():

“I want to make men cry.” Groningen-based artist Bruno Storm pours his emotions and life lessons into his songs, inviting you to embrace your vulnerability. Inspired by Spinvis, Froukje, and Wende, he transforms that vulnerability into catchy tunes that make you sway and dance. Dutch indie pop you just can’t get enough of. This performance marks the release of his new EP. Come celebrate this milestone at UP!

HAITZE ():

The Frisian Haitze takes you along with his electric guitar into a world where introverts take the spotlight and there’s room for the struggles of millennials. Having started out as a guitarist and songwriter with Katie Koss, he’s now forging ahead with his own project. A conservatory graduate, he delivers a polished sound where everything falls perfectly into place. Inspired by Sam Fender, Bazart, Eefje de Visser, and The Wombats, Haitze brings a show full of dreamy tracks and sunny bangers that will get your feet moving and lights waving in the air. Just a week after the release of his new album, Haitze will take the stage in Simplon’s upstairs to let you be one of the firsts to hear his brand-new tracks!

WEL MOED ():

WEL MOED is a 20-year-old singer-songwriter from Friesland who combines authentic Dutch lyrics with electronic elements. WEL MOED wants to convey a sense of confidence and strength to her listeners. She does this by combining danceable pop with sensitive lyrics that are very catchy. In November 2024, WEL MOED took second place at the COC song contest in Nijmegen with her debut single Ben je trots? Come jump and sing along with WEL MOED at Simplon UP!

OXAR ():

Oxar goes hard on being soft. His sharp lyrics about loneliness, change, and caring for others are supported by thumping kicks and shrill synths. After his first EP, feesten op verdriet (partying on sadness), which was mainly about lonely young people, he now focuses more on society and external life. Change sucks, but that’s just the way it is. Are you curious about Oxar’s music? Then come and dance at Simplon UP!

Alongside the acts, DJ Lenny Moreno () will be spinning some tunes in the Simplon café during the evening.

BIEKE (.music):

Bieke demonstrates how processing takes on an activist edge in Dutch pop music. Her experience as a group therapist in mental health care and her own process as a client give her a unique perspective. As it turns out, talking creates space for growth, even if you have to go through some challenging experiences. In 2024, Bieke sprinted out of the starting blocks and released the songs from her debut EP “RUMENS,” which are played on national and local radio and TV. 3voor12 Utrecht nominated “Ik Projecteer” as Utrecht Song of the Year, which ended up at number 5 in the 030 top 30. In the same year, she formed her band, which performed for the Pinguin Radio Showcase and participated in Clash Of The Titans 2025 and the finals of Songs For Freedom for Bevrijdingsfestival Utrecht 2025. Bieke is committed to accessible mental health care and is one of the founders of Stichting Recht op GGZ. Curious about Bieke’s music? Then come to Simplon UP!

JESSEE ():

JESSEE is a nineteen-year-old singer-songwriter and dancer from Hoogkarspel, North Holland, who has been involved with music from an early age. He started taking singing lessons at the age of fourteen and moved to Groningen at sixteen to study music, which he recently completed. JESSEE is currently writing his debut album, in which he delves deeply into personal experiences with trauma, abuse, PTSD, and complex relationships. In his song lyrics, he also explores love, sexuality, and emotional vulnerability, offering raw, unfiltered reflections. JESSEE’s sound is a mix of pop, R&B, folk, and hip hop, combined with a striking stage presence that showcases his sophisticated dance skills with a confident, expressive, and sometimes sensual side. JESSEE captivates audiences with his singing and dancing that exudes power, seduction, and vulnerability, reinforcing his presence as a compelling and dynamic artist.

Alongside the acts, DJ Femboy Slim will serve the Simplon Café with some groovy tunes during the evening.

GEESTDRIFT ():

Small, grand, vulnerable, compelling. Geestdrift brings everything together in their music, which can be described as a fusion of punk rock and poetry. Elena delivers her poetic lyrics in a mysterious and gripping way, with a beautiful voice that draws the listener into her world filled with pain, anger, fear, and desire. Last year, the band won first prize at Kunstbende, and with a string of festivals under their belt, they are steadily becoming an established name. With an enigmatic presence, in a style that perfectly matches the Halloween spirit, Geestdrift will return with a special Halloween show on October 30th to the upstairs stage at UP! 👻

SCARECROW W***Y ():

A rustic yet fresh blues vibe. This one-man band comes equipped with his guitars, harmonica, kick drum, tambourine, and, most importantly, powerful vocals. Inspired by Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, and Bob Dylan, Corijn Koper started Scarecrow W***y as a way to share his stories, gradually gaining more and more recognition. A must-see for all fans of blues, folk, americana… and really, for anyone who appreciates true musical talent!
