Een stel Middelburgse Boomers heeft het na veel gezeik voor elkaar dat een veelgebruikt Skatepark moet verdwijnen. Dat kan hosternokke natuurlijk niet he! Dus effe ondetekenen die petitie.

MIDDELBURG - Middelburgse skaters leggen zich niet zomaar bij de sluiting van hun skatepark in de Veerse Poort neer. Eén van hen is woensdag een petitie gestart die dezelfde dag door bijna 3000 mensen is ondertekend.

After 42 years of operation, the legendary Bar American is closing shop on January 1st 2021. This hard rock institution will be turned into a coffee corner, of all things...

This means the last of the ZLHC Party venues, the one where it all started, will be gone. Needless to say, we're absolutely gutted, even more so since one last farewell show is not possible because of the curse we're all living through. At least not in the way ZLHC is known for.

Without Bar American and Arjen Koole giving Edmond a chance all those years ago, ZLHC would not have become the beautiful and extraordinary thing it has been. It was a wild ride. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for everything.

Only one thing left to say to express how we currently feel...

We maakten nog niet vaak mee dat we zó vaak werden aangeklampt over een Middelburgs gerucht als in de afgelopen twee weken het geval was. Dit onbevestigde bericht ging écht als een lopend vuurtje door de stad.

Maar het is waar en nu kunnen we het publiceren omdat alle betrokken partijen het bevestigd hebben: Bar American is door Kees Petiet en zijn compagnon Arjen Koole verkocht aan Ron Bouwman van Bomont.

Wat de plannen precies zijn horen we later deze week, maar een paar dingen kunnen we al melden. Kees en zijn vrouw blijven boven de zaak wonen. De overdracht van Bar American is op 1 januari 2021. Tot die datum blijft het café gewoon geopend. De mannen willen er nog een paar mooie maanden van maken. Alle medewerkers zijn inmiddels op de hoogte gebracht.

We zullen hier uiteraard nog een paar keer uitgebreid op terugkomen. Het is niet niks, dat het instituut American na 42 (of 52) jaar ophoudt te bestaan. We hebben zelf ook een speciale band met die zaak. We zagen er talloze bands, hadden er ontelbaar veel mooie middagen en avonden en we werkten er zelf ook nog achter de bar. Daarnaast zijn we ook heel benieuwd naar de plannen van Ron. Die gaat er ongetwijfeld iets moois van maken.

Wordt vervolgd dus!

Aanstaande vrijdag een punkrock show in Middelburg georganiseerd door BoemTikFest. Geen ZLHC, maar wel in Zeeland dus volle bak gezelligheid.

Last Friday's show was a lot of fun, with four great bands giving it their all. Many thanks to them, to Bar American for hosting us once again and for everybody who showed up to party.

Unfortunately, it was also one of the worst attended shows in ZLHC history, with only 40 paying visitors. Including a lot ot Bar American regulars who payed, but would have been there to have a drink anyway.

We blame nobody, we all have places to be, things to do and priorities to attend to. Nobody has obligations towards this thing what so ever. But to me, it is saddening to see that the first ZLHC show in many months attracts this little people, where we used to be a thriving scene we all held very dear. Especially considering the spare time, effort and money poured into this by us, Bar American and the bands.

So...back into hybernation it is. No shows planned in the forseeable future. This was ZLHC.
