This was Sticky Fingers. You could almost taste the flavours just by looking at the photos. Our very first edible exhibition in our newly renovated building.

A huge thank you to Hala Tawil and Micheline Nahra for turning desserts into art and art into something delicious.

From garlic deodorant and a tapestry woven with memories to a group of men all named Brian Wilson and an almost-forgotten child's drawing on tiles, this was Anonymous 2026!

We loved experiencing the work of eight artists, selected entirely anonymously, solely based on their work.

Sticky Fingers
Kunstenaars: Chef en food designer Micheline Nahra, in samenwerking met beeldend kunstenaar Hala Tawil.

Een dessert bevindt zich op een eigenaardige plek, ergens tussen voedsel en object. Het is van nature vertrouwd met presentatie, ornament en overdaad. Het vraagt erom bekeken te worden voordat het wordt gegeten.

Maar lang vóór de eerste hap draagt het al een belofte in zich. De aantrekkingskracht van suiker is instinctief: vertrouwd sinds de kindertijd, beladen met verwachting en des te verleidelijker door een zweem van schuldgevoel. Zodra het ons bereikt, brengen we het naar onze mond en geven we ons eraan over. Om zijn bestemming te vervullen, moet het verdwijnen.

Je bent uitgenodigd voor een reeks zoete proeverijen. Nip. Proef. Laat het smaken.

Artists: Chef and food designer Micheline Nahra in collaboration with visual artist Hala Tawil.

Dessert occupies a peculiar space between food, and object. It is no stranger to display, ornament, or excess. It asks to be looked at before it is eaten.

Yet long before the first bite, it carries a promise. Sugar’s appeal is instinctive: familiar from childhood, loaded with anticipation, and made all the sweeter by a touch of guilt. When it finally reaches us, we guide it to our mouths and devour it. In fulfilling its purpose, it must disappear.

You are invited to a series of sweet tastings. Sip and bite. Taste and savor.

Een bekende Koreaanse honkbalspeler vertelde ooit dat hij, nadat hij zich had aangesloten bij de Major League Baseball in de Verenigde Staten, na het eten van geroosterde knoflook grote hoeveelheden kaas at om de geur ervan te maskeren.

De kunstenaar had een vergelijkbare ervaring na zijn verhuizing naar Europa, waar de geur van knoflook vaak als ongewenst wordt beschouwd. In het thuisland van de kunstenaar is knoflook een onmisbaar ingrediënt dat in vrijwel elk gerecht wordt gebruikt en een diepe culturele betekenis heeft. Volgens de Koreaanse stichtingsmythe werd de eerste voorouder van het Koreaanse volk namelijk mens nadat hij honderd dagen lang knoflook had gegeten. In een poging zich aan te passen aan de westerse samenleving vermeed de kunstenaar het eten van knoflook en probeerde hij de geur ervan uit te wissen.

[K-ODORANT]

A well-known Korean baseball player once revealed that after joining Major League Baseball in the United States, whenever he ate roasted garlic, he would eat large amounts of cheese to mask its smell.

The artist had a similar experience after moving to Europe, where garlic odor is often regarded as undesirable. In the artist’s home country, garlic is a staple ingredient used in almost every dish and holds deep cultural significance: according to Korea’s founding myth, the nation’s first ancestor became human after consuming garlic for 100 days. In an effort to adapt to Western society, the artist avoided eating garlic and tried to erase its smell.

The installation presents a launch display for a fictional product called K-ODORANT. While K-beauty has long been exported through images of refinement and cleanliness, garlic body odor, one of the most recognizable odors associated with Korean everyday life, has become something to conceal abroad.

Human Layer

De kunstenaar presenteert vier werken uit de serie Human Layer. In deze serie creëert zij met behulp van AI-modellen fictieve posthumane, postapocalyptische landschappen. Deze worden op canvas geprint en vervolgens overschilderd met een abstracte substantie. Voor de kunstenaar is schilderen een intuïtieve en eerlijke vorm van artistieke expressie, die zich verzet tegen de anonieme logica van het gegenereerde beeld.

Tegelijkertijd weerspiegelt Human Layer een verschuiving in de manier waarop de werkelijkheid wordt waargenomen en vervangen. De landschappen ogen geloofwaardig, maar zijn gegenereerd; ze lijken mogelijke documenten van de wereld, maar zijn fictief. Deze onzekerheid tussen het echte en het synthetische creëert een verstilde, melancholische schoonheid.

Yulia Ani presents four artworks from the series “Human Layer”. In this series, she creates fictional post-human, post-apocalyptic landscapes using AI models, prints them on canvas, and then paints an abstract substance on top of them. For Ani, painting is an intuitive and honest form of artistic expression, one that resists the anonymous logic of the generated image.

At the same time, Human Layer reflects a shift in how reality is perceived and replaced. The landscapes appear believable, but they are generated; they look like possible documents of the world, yet they are fictional. This uncertainty between the real and the synthetic creates a quiet, melancholic beauty.

Videoperformance 不会

In de videoperformance 不会 worden de karakters 我不会说中文 (wǒ bú huì shuō zhōngwén) herhaaldelijk op een kalligrafie-oefenblad geschreven. De karakters worden met water geschreven en verdwijnen na verloop van tijd. De zin betekent: “Ik spreek geen Chinees.” Het was de eerste zin die de kunstenaar in haar moedertaal leerde toen zij als Chinees geadopteerde terugkeerde naar China. Het werk en de herhaling ervan vormen een spiegel van het aantal keren dat de kunstenaar zichzelf moest uitleggen. Het weerspiegelt de frustratie van voortdurend haar tekortkoming en positie als buitenstaander te moeten blootleggen, zelfs in haar geboorteland.

Video performance 不会

In the video performance 不会 the characters 我不会说中文 (wǒ bú huì shuō zhōng wén) are written repeatedly on a practice sheet for calligraphy. The characters are written with water and disappear over time. The sentence means “I cannot speak Chinese”. It was the first sentence learned by the artist in her mother tongue when returning to China, as a Chinese adoptee. The work and its repetition is as a mirror to the quantity of times the artist needed to explain herself. It reflects the frustration of constantly needing to expose one’s lack and position as the outsider, even in her birth country.
