Amy's Tafel is a place for good food and discussion: an alternative to the fast food culture that has emerged in Amsterdam Zuidoost. The space is also a venue for community events: poetry workshops, lectures, basically anything that fosters creativity and growth. Eating well is important to every community but especially important to neighborhoods like ours, that are struggling with poverty and a

lack of healthy food options. To enable people to eat well on a regular basis, I provide good quality food for a reasonable price. Eating more grains, vegetables and legumes

This Saturday, I'm hosting a dinner and discussion at the Heesterveld Creative Community entitled Ghetto Romantics: The Fresh Prince of Bijlmer. Come and enjoy an evening of art, music, food, wine, and discussion about identity, belonging, strategic essentialism and the commodification of culture. Special guests include painter Frank Creton, photographer Roselien Beertens and criminologist Marijke Drogt.

On 26 feb, theatre group the Lost Project will give a sneak preview of their first production, AWKWARD, a play about coming of age and homosexuality at the Klusflat in Kraaiennest. This Saturday marks the debut of the Abundant Underground at Amy's Tafel with an exhibition by atelier Ray Zijlstra entitled 'Negroes with red lips and green eyes'. Opening at 15.00, interview with the artist at 16.00.

Thanks-giving took on a whole new meaning last night at Amy's Tafel. Thanks to the Heesterveld community for coming out in full force and breaking bread and of course, thanks to our special guest, Natasha T. Miller, for sharing her poems and generous spirit. There was some definite magic in the air.

Amy's Tafel was happy to cook for this amazing event, a documentary that explores why we, as neighbors, never get to know each other. The filmmakers staged a dinner on the square of their block and invited a number of neighbors to come down and take part in the discussion.
