✨What should a celebrant wear?✨

As a celebrant delivering a speech before wedding guests, I have a responsibility to my couples, their families, and friends to present myself properly and respectfully. In other words, I love to wear what is fitting for the occasion while remaining true to myself.

Shakespeare wrote, “For the apparel oft proclaims the man.” Clover Jean wrote ”Clothes make the woman!”.

Spring is in the air! And Amsterdam Elopements are in full swing!

What's an elopement?

➡️ELOPEMENT
An elopement is an escape from a traditional wedding whereby two people in love celebrate with a cosy and intimate symbolic wedding. Just like the couple in the photo – Kristin & Logan. They had a secret adventure and said, 'Surprise, we eloped and got married'!

➡️META (INSTAGRAM CHANGES)
But there is a problem - New Meta regulations start on May 8, 2026 (one day before my birthday 😊) and Instagram will no longer support end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for private messaging.

➡️HOW DOES THIS AFFECT YOU?
This BIG change means that if you are planning an elopement, surprise wedding or party your message is no longer private; Meta and third parties can read it too.

What is the best part of a wedding day? You guessed it! It’s about keeping your guests happy, engaged and entertained. Whether I’m serving as your officiant or on-the-day wedding coordinator, getting to know you and your guests is my favourite part. My role is to kick-start your wedding celebrations!

It’s important to create the right atmosphere that matches your wedding theme. Guests should feel welcomed, seen and have comfortable seating options for the ceremony, reception, and dinner.

➡️Food and Drinks
Guests appreciate good food and drinks (I do too), and they love having a variety of choices. Don't forget to provide vegetarian and vegan options for those with dietary restrictions. If alcohol is being served, ensure a fully stocked bar (unless you’re hosting a dry wedding - no alcohol!)

➡️Entertainment and Activities
Lastly, keep the wedding lively! This truly impacts the guests' happiness - engage and entertain them. Consider hiring a choir, band, or DJ for live music. Set up games, a painting area, or a photo booth, and add your hashtag to encourage guests to connect and share their experiences from the day.

"Can you marry us in Barcelona?"

Shannon and Sven, a couple from the Netherlands with diverse backgrounds, planned a destination wedding in Spain, as it holds a special place in their hearts. During the warm month of September, a sense of romance fills the air.

➡️WHY DID THEY CHOOSE ME AS THEIR CELEBRANT?

The bride’s mother discovered me on Instagram. She thought I would be a good match to officiate her daughter’s and son-in-law’s bilingual wedding. How could I say no? I jumped at the chance.

➡️ROMANTIC WEDDING DAY

The event was intimate, black-tie, elegant, and deeply moving as Shannon walked up the aisle with her father, who then handed her over to the awaiting groom, Sven. Their love shone bright, and the chemistry between them was electrifying.

➡️THE WEDDING VENUE

The wedding venue nestled against a beautiful Mediterranean mountain backdrop, was perfect for the ceremony and reception, which featured a spectacular champagne tower to symbolise love overflowing, growing richer and deeper.

It was an unforgettable destination wedding experience, one that I will always cherish. Thank you, Shannon and Sven!

Who am I, when did I become a celebrant/officiant, why do couples choose me, and are we a match made in heaven? These are the pre-wedding questions I often receive during my initial interviews with happy couples. Do we meet in person or via video chat? Well, that depends on you! As a celebrant/officiant in Amsterdam, I prefer to meet in the city, but I am happy to travel to the couple upon request.

➡️WHO AM I?
My name is Clover Jean (yes, that's my real name, not a stage name or pseudonym). I have delivered over 500 informal and formal ceremonies, as well as live music performances. Celebrating weddings for international and in*******al couples is my passion. No two love stories are alike; each one is unique!

➡️HOW DID I BECOME A CELEBRANT/OFFICIANT?
The story goes back to 2008 when a Dutch couple from Texel asked me to marry them. I said, "I'm not a celebrant/officiant; I'm a performer. I know nothing about weddings!" They replied, "Don't worry; we won't tell if you don't! Just put on a wig and toga and go with the flow!" I did, and the rest is history.
