EXPOFLORES will host the second edition for EXPO FLOR ECUADOR from October 5th to the 7th 2022 at the Centro de Convenciones Metropolitano de Quito, Bicentennial Park, in Quito-Ecuador. Due to COVID-19, the flower trade show was suspended in 2020. It has been a difficult time to pursue a flower trade show during these two years.

I love my Mom so much! She is an important part of my life every day. I am so grateful to get all the necessary tools for life. I know the difference between right and wrong and how to respect other people. I couldn’t have become who I am now without her loving guidance and support. I created this heart bouquet for my Mother. To achieve the heart shape, I used aluminium wire. Materials: Porta Nova Red Naomi Supra roses and Jasminum.

This Mother’s Day, Porta Nova joins several florists in making the day just a bit more memorable for their mums, or for that special mother figure in their lives. We challenged several floral artists to share with us special Bouquets with Porta Nova Red and White Naomi Roses that they've prepared for their Mothers. Floral artist Pirjo Koppi shared her love for mum with a touching Red Naomi heart bouquet.

East African Rose growers converge at DREA open days
De Ruiter East Africa (DREA) held a series of open days in the Month of October and November. The open days were an opportunity for growers in the various rose-growing regions in Kenya and across East Africa to explore new DREA varieties and determine which ones would best suit them with regards to production, disease resistance and more.

A perfect example of such a relationship is between Porta Nova & Piet van Kampen.

Piet has been involved in exporting cut flowers for 47 years. After working for a wholesaler in Rungis-Paris for a year, he started his career at Zurel in 1974 and saw the company grow from NLG 49 million to NLG 485 million. In 1997, he became co-owner and commercial director of DGI. As a trader, he has always stood close to the growers and often felt like their representative.

Piet likes to do everything right the first time and in 2010 co-founded the grower platform G-fresh, which enables wholesalers and their florist customers to order directly from the grower. The aim was to connect parties, look into each other's kitchen and guarantee the end customer the freshest flowers at the lowest additional cost. Price and quality are essential to success, but he also realized that, in addition to source and product knowledge, information and inspiration are just as essential for the florist.

To share the grower's story with the florist, Piet co-founded the free digital flower magazine Floral Fundamentals in 2014.

In 2020, he did put an end to his career in export and now focuses solely on promoting flowers and spreading the story of Master Growers, who grow, with an eye for planet and people, top quality flowers with a message.
