We blikken terug op PIVOT! 🤩
Afgelopen maand stond deze grootschalige kunstinstallatie van de Mexicaanse kunstenaar en architectenbureau .vao op de NDSM-werf. Na de feestelijke opening trok het direct veel bekijks – van spelende kinderen tot nieuwsgierige voorbijgangers. Het werk bracht verkoeling, plezier én verwondering, maar riep ook vragen op: hoe verhouden we ons tot natuur in de stad, en hoe reageren we op klimaatverandering en hittestress?
Geïnspireerd op de enorme irrigatiesystemen die in Zuid-Amerika worden gebruikt voor maïs- of soja teelt – en in Nederland bijvoorbeeld voor uien – plaatste PIVOT een draaiende, sproeiende constructie midden in de stad.
In een speciale podcast met van vão en Héctor Zamora vertellen zij meer over het idee, de techniek en de betekenis achter het werk.
Hoewel PIVOT inmiddels verdwenen is van de NDSM-werf, is een ander kunstwerk van Zamora nog te zien bij de in Deventer.

We look back on PIVOT! 🤩
Last month, this large-scale art installation by Mexican artist and architecture studio .vao stood proudly on the NDSM wharf. After its festive opening, it quickly drew attention – from playing children to curious passers-by. The work brought refreshment, joy, and wonder, while also sparking questions: How do we relate to nature in the city? And how do we respond to climate change and heat stress?
Inspired by the vast irrigation systems used in South America for maize or soya cultivation – and in the Netherlands, for example, for onions – PIVOT placed a rotating, spraying structure right in the heart of the city.
In a special podcast with of vão and Héctor Zamora, they share more about the concept, technique, and meaning behind the work.
Although PIVOT is no longer on the NDSM wharf, another work by Zamora can still be seen at the in Deventer.
