Cleaning is the most underrated way to improve your everyday espresso. Coffee is notoriously oily, especially under pressure. Oil gets into everything when you run a busy café or event. A little ground coffee goes into nooks and crevices and stays there, leaking oil.

Eventually, when the machine sits idle, the oil dries out and forms layers or crusts. These need to be cleaned. Scrubbed. Dissolved. Once a day or once a week. But you have to do it.

Here you see the effect of 10 min of scrubbing on an old portafilter. The taste is so much less bitter, stringent and "green"!

Working at a new job in a new location and suddenly I think I have a barista gig again! They have fancy Nuova Simonelli Official espresso machines from Koffiebranderij Mocca d'Or , Mythos grinders (albeit not GbW) and a big 3 group Racer (?) in the cafeteria.

Staff have been properly trained but people are messy as they will always be, because they don't have to clean the machine. 😄 The thing desperately needs a new calibration though IMHO the timings are off and ratios seem not good. The machine could also use soe. Repositioning for a better workflow when people come in in the morning and want their coffees. Now they just run I to each other and such.

Then I even found a filter set in a closet. Hario, Aeropress, Timemore _and_ 1zpresso grinders, filters, scale. 🤩😜 Fantastic 💯🎉😎

An amazing natural funky coffee from

An amazing coffee that was gifted.to me at the ACF last month by from Guatamala ❤️❤️❤️ smells kiel to***co like Talisker whiskey does. Tastes like roasted walnuts, caramel and chocolate. I know. Cheap but so satisfying for me.

And a 20 yrs old Cahors wine from Puy l'évêque where my parents used to live. Sadly they've passed not too long ago. The wine is still amazing as well. Thick luscious black fruits, and cherries. Wonderful 😊

Celebrations and remembrance for my parents as well as all those who died in WW2. The Netherlands were liberated 81 yrs ago today. 🇳🇱
