Today in my Church, the Holy Catholic Church, we chose to talk about marriage. We took our scripture text from the Holy gospel according to Mark 10:2-16.
Marriage is a relationship, only meant for a mature man and a mature woman.
Marriage cannot be dissolved, and divorce is not allowed, marriage is broken only by death of either of the spouses
Marriage should not be built on lies, and cheating of a partner is not enough reason to end a marriage.
The indissolubility of marriage in my Church is derived from the statement of Christ that whatever God has joined together, let no man put assunder, even the cheating or irresponsible life style of either of the spouses is not enough reason to end a marriage.
Those going into marriage must do so prayerfully and with utmost care, as whatever choice you make, you will be responsible for the outcome.
The number one reason for marriage is companionship, is not good for man to be alone, so any other thing is an extra blessing from God the author of marriage; absence of fruitfulness therefore is not a ground to end a marriage or indulge in polygamy.
Traditional marriage is ok according to biblical tradition, in our African traditions, polygamy is allowed, but in Christian culture and tradition, polygamy is not allowed because in the beginning, God made them one man, one woman, and Christ teaches the same.
In marriage, forgiveness is the glue that keeps the institution going, he or she who is not ready to forgive, is not ready for marriage. When your spouse offends you, don't think of divorce or separation, but instead think of forgiveness.
We pray that God may bless all married people and all those who intend to go into marriage, with enough graces that will help in the marital journey. Amen 🙏.
