An ushering job is a means of livelihood to an undergraduate female. It brings in money, especially when you least expect it.
Now, the income may be steady or unsteady depending on the individual and the organization she works with.
Let me use an example of two friends, Tayo and Bola. Tayo is tall, slim and shapely, has a very beautiful face and wears a UK dress size 10, while Bola is tall as well, thick, wears a size 12. An ushering agency would pick Tayo ever Bola, mostly because of the size difference.
In an ushering agency where you are the only one on the big side, things may be harder for you. At times your agent would say it to your face that you're fat and should lose some weight, to them it is a candid piece of advise but is it really?
Now you may get some self conscious and if you continue listening to such negative comments you may lose your self esteem and development bad eating habits in a bid to lose the weight. If you are the type who gets affected by such negative comments, I would advise you to leave the agency. Money is good but at what expense? Your self esteem, confidence, mental health?
The society has defined beauty like they do other subjects. Some ushering agencies have their own definition of beauty and mostly, they would choose light skinned ladies over the dark skinned ones sometimes, clients actually request for light skinned ladies but some agencies still indulge in this.
A lady I met last year confided in me that she decided to tone her skin a bit so she would be very attractive and get selected for jobs. Her definition of tonight was bleaching and yes, she revealed she got more jobs when she went light skinned.
Ushering jobs are truly a blessing to student as they use their pay to help themselves out in school. The only way to enjoy using jobs is to register with an agency that welcomes all sizes and colours.

My advice to the youth:

Be detailed and let every penny you spend be accounted for. If someone tells you to register take the pain to find out where their office is no matter how far. Also, never go alone. Inform your family as well as these guys can be ruthless.

A major problem in ushering services is the issue of people turning this serious business to something they think they can joke with. Some one sits in his or her house to scam young ladies of their hard earned money, all in the name of getting them ushering job.
Right now one can't tell someone to register without the girl thinking she's going to be duped.
To all those out there, duping girls of their money in the name of registration,
Look for another means to dupe pls. Not ushering. This nonetity just have to stop!

There are some misconceptions about ushers that needs to be clarified. Ushers are not servers, we assist servers but we are not meant to serve food. But if we do not assist, guests seems to think we are just figureheads. 2, I think agencies should endeavour to train their ushers, not every usher know the rules. I joined 3 ushering agencies before I started mine, and these agencies never trained us, yet the bosses get angry when we do not perform at events but how can we when we dont know what to do. I train my ushers from time to time to make sure they deliver at events.

I also think that ushers should be decently dressed, so as not to portray a negative vibe from the guests. Sometimes, a client may ask if the girls can come for their after party and I say a strong No, we are ushers not party minglers. Just my opinion.

Ushering is becoming a must-have at events, let's create a strong force, people still don't understand why ushers are needed at events, we should make them understand that we are not just pretty faces in pretty outfits, we are there to work and make guests feel comfortable.

A good usher has a background in customer service, which helps them better assist guests or patrons. Additional qualifications include strong communication skills, a friendly personality, and knowledge of all theater safety rules and regulations.

Coordinating People

Once the initial plans and preparations are made for an event such as a wedding, it's then vital to arrange and coordinate people in event planning. No matter what the event is, whether it's a wedding or large convention, there will be multiple vendors and people that the event planner will be in charge of.

For example, Derbie will need to coordinate a caterer, florist, DJ, baker, bartender, and other people to make the wedding run smoothly. In order to coordinate these areas, Derbie has to be organized. She will need to make sure she sets up meetings with each individual vendor to go over details and then continue to communicate with them up until the event.
