✅️ Age may no longer determine authority, but character still determines respect.

✅️ A modern workplace can be informal without becoming disrespectful.

✅️ Familiarity without boundaries quickly becomes entitlement.

✅️ You can be comfortable with someone and still honour their position.

✅️ Corporate familiarity says “we can relate.” Culture reminds us “know your boundaries.”

✅️ Respect is not fear. Familiarity is not permission.

✅️ The real skill is knowing when to be familiar and when to maintain distance.
Professionalism is knowing that access does not cancel hierarchy.

In Africa, respect often survives even when hierarchy changes.
The workplace may change the rules, but culture doesn't disappear at the office door.

That one statement opened a whole chapter in my mind.

African philosophy is not always written in books. Sometimes, Mama will just say one sentence while doing something else and leave you thinking about it for three business days.

If not by age, then by what?

Lesson learnt from the Adeleke family:

Never let people convince you that success is a crime. Build your own table, enjoy your blessings, stay united, and keep winning.

Because at the end of the day, people may talk about your lifestyle, your family, your money and your choices, but they can’t stop a family that knows how to support one another and enjoy the fruits of their labour.

Lesson: Work hard, make your money, take care of your people, and enjoy your life responsibly. You owe nobody an apology for doing well.
