Armed robbery has taken a new dimension in Nigeria especially Lagos given the abundant ATMs in Lagos, Armed robbers now visit ATMs on Friday evenings so as to forcefully collect the ATM cards and PIN codes of customers.
They approach you with a smile while you are attempting to make a transaction, display their guns and also point
to their colleagues around in case you attempt to play smart by refusing or screaming.
They then collect your ATM cards and ask for your PIN codes. They confirm the PIN there to know if it’s fake.
Their intention is to withdraw at least the Bank ATM withdrawal limit of #100,000 daily between that Friday,
Saturday and Sunday.
They do this criminal act on Friday evenings when they know Banks had closed for the day and are on weekend break.
They know majority of Nigerians don’t have the phone numbers of their Account Officers or any staff in their bank and as such can’t place a call to have their ATM card blocked by the bank until 7am Monday morning when banks resume.
❖ Withdrawal via ATMs should be done at most Friday afternoon when banks are still open.❖ Avoid withdrawing on weekends especially on lonely and relatively less secure environments. ❖ A lady at gunpoint had 3 of her ATM cards snatched, her PIN collected with a total of #680,000 withdrawn between❖ Friday and Sunday night from her three accounts via ATM.

TEN CRITICAL QUESTIONS EVERY YORUBA CLAIMING NIGERIA NATIONALITY MUST ANSWER.

(1) Do you believe ODUDUWA is the ancestral father of the Yoruba people?
Many Yoruba scholars claim oduduwa fell from the sky to Yoruba land. Where actually did he land? , Any sign ?. Others say he came from the east, ok, did he meet people in the so called Yoruba land? If yes, then how can oduduwa now be their ancestral father?

(2) Does Yoruba have any historic monument like the pyramid structures in Old Benin, Great Benin Moat, Zimbabwe and Timbuktu in Mali? Any sign of an empire in the region as claimed do Oyo?(not talking about clay molded or primitive bronze artifacts many claim dating back to 10BC), or the story of slave raiding westward, east ward or northward. I mean physical structures that tell of an ancient civilization?.Though the two most relevant structures in Oyo-lle, the Alaafin palace and his village market as claimed by Yoruba Historians ?

(3) When and where was Yoruba presence first felt in West African history? Why no reflection of Yoruba in many ancient maps of West Africa?

(4) Was Yoruba territory in British pre- Nigeria creation say 1600-1900, same with, 1914 and again in 1960 to 1967? What expanded it and why? Were there aborigines in those territories say owo, kwara, ondo and Lagos before their presence during the British colonial period? If there were aborigines, then who were they?

(5) Did Yoruba Oyo had a National flag and a centralize hereditary monarchy like the Benin? Why couldn't they ? What was Yoruba boundary with Dahomey before the creation of Nigeria vs. Togo boundary? Anything in common with Togo? For how long has that and why?

(6) If Yoruba clan, the awori as claimed was a kingdom or aborigine of Lagos before Britain why weren't they first to trade with European or Portuguese in the region? Why did the first Europeans to the region not name the ocean "Bight of Awori" but The Bight of Benin.? After all, The Europeans themselves were only interested on trade, slaves and commodities as they careless who they meet.

(7) Isn't true the word Yoruba is a hausa-fulani word? Used to identify people of Oyo? (Basically the real Yoruba settlers, who migrated from Togo or Dahomey to their present location in Oyo). Anything to do with African tradition or Islam?

(8) If true, slave trade swept off Oyo (the only known Yoruba land at the time), and an invasion of Islam, where did they get their further population from and the African traditional religion, like the Olokun, ogun, oronmila, etc?

(9) Does Yoruba have one language and one ancestral city like Benin to all Edo dialects? If no, then why?

(10) In 1974, an approval was granted Dahomey by Oba Akenzua II of the Benin Kingdom to change the name of the country to Republic of Benin. Why didn't Republic of Benin(Togo) go to Yoruba being that they are closer and there really was an Oyo empire that stretches to Togo as Yoruba historians claim?. Does that also reveal or shows that Benin Empire stretched beyond the entire Yoruba land! To Dahomey at a time?.

The word “YORUBA”.

The word Yoruba has its roots in Yariba which the Fulani used to call the Oyo people. This was a later word use to identify the people of Oyo by the Hausa-fulani’s during the slave trade in the 16 century. The word 'Yariba' was first recorded in reference to the Oyo people only, in a treatise written by the 16th-century Songhai scholar Ahmed Baba. It was popularized by Hausa usage and ethnography written in Arabic and Ajami during the 19th century, in origin referring to the Oyo exclusively. The extension of the term Yoruba to all speakers of dialects related to the language of the Oyo (in modern terminology North-West Yoruba) dates to the second half of the 19th century. It is due to the influence of Samuel Ajayi Crowther, the first Anglican bishop in Nigeria. Crowther was himself a Yoruba and compiled the first Yoruba dictionary as well as introducing a standard for Yoruba orthography. It’s like classifying all of Northern Nigeria as Hausa. The presence of Yoruba influence in most places today claimed as Yorubaland can be traced back to the propaganda nature of Crowther in the 19th century.
(b) SECOND MIGRATION OF YORUBA PEOPLE SOUTHWARD FROM OYO AND IFE:
The yoruba second migration happened in the 16 to 18 century during the slave raiding for british slave merchants. there may have been some few migrants during the economic boom during benin kingdom trading with the portuguese. oyo recorded the highest slave raiding in the history of nigeria and most of them were shipped to south america. at the time of european economic boom in benin kingdom, many migrant from the hitterland were coming to seek for new opportunities and jobs near the coast. that when the only know yariba people began to migrate to work in benin kingdom and in the coast in the 18 century to the 19 century. the british who hated the monopoly and sovereignty of benin, plan to bring her down using her surrounding like the yoruba from the inside north west."oyo" to finish their plan and conspiracy in the region. here is when that yoruba presence of today began their tragectory and occupation of many lands and territories early owned by benin with the consolidation of britain during the colonial administration.

Edo prince went far south west, created a town or village with his followers. Edo prince name was Ekaladerhan Izoduwa or Imadoduwa. He created Kingship monarchy in the town he created and also calls it "ILefe." he reign over this land until migrant people and workers can from Dahomey (today known as Yoruba). Before then, there wasn’t any Yoruba
settlement or Kingdom before Ekaladerhen arrive with his followers. Imadoduwa was a magician. He was with the mind of making his kingdom great and wealthy. He embarks on developing more areas in his kingdom and expanding his territory. Ekaladerhan Izoduwa was what was later corrupt by Yoruba as Oduduwa. Some scholars say “Yoruba” migrants from Togo to the Kingdom of Ilefe were the Ewe tribe of Togo while others say they were from Fon, thought Togo was part and parcel of Mali, Berbers, and Dahomey, They weren't called Yoruba in Ekaladerhan kingdom then. The migrant population was huge. Scholars argue Yoruba are Malians. Mali most likely comes from Mali*inke (Mandinga) which was also spelled Malli in most ancient maps. Some say Yoruba originate from the tribe of ancient Ewe that settled in West Africa from Dahomey, Ghana and finally Old Oyo. Yoruba arriving Ilefe mix up and inter marriage and Imadoduwa/Izoduwa or Ekaladerahn then king of Ilefe welcome them into his kingdom. Finally they spoke corrupt Benin mix with the language they spoken then, call it resemblance of "Ewe" or "Fon" in Togo that gave birth to Yoruba language of today.
After many years when the Imazoduwa died, another succession probably one of his sons continues the reign of the kingdom of Ilefe. By this time the kingdom have already expand to some other parts know as Yoruba land of today. Yoruba were not Benin and Benin not Yoruba but mix in Ilefe that later expand territory to other parts of today Yoruba land. Benin was and is aborigines of today Yoruba land. Ilefe is a Benin name and town created by a Benin Prince in the south west of Nigeria. The Yoruba call it the same as “Ile Ife”. Only the turnation varies. Both the Benin and Yoruba agree Ilefe or Ile Ife was ruled and organized by a Benin prince. The Monarchy system was created by a Benin prince Izoduwa, Imadoduwa or Oduduwa. The reason some or many Yoruba today fill Benin not the aborigine and source of their monarchy institution are political, Ego and the corrupt British education and administration. Let not also forget that slave trade had a terrible impart on the old kingdom of Ekaladerhan in Yoruba land. Ife and Oyo was seriously divasted and reduces during the slave trade. The headquarter or Yoruba kingdom was in “Ilefe” or Ile Ife. The settlement by migrants from Togo that settled in Oyo was wipe off by 18 century by slave trade.
As recorded in modern history, the Alaafin’s dynasty in Oyo began around 1200 CE. Oronmiyan was in Igodomigodo in 1170 CE. Ekaladerhan Izoduwa (Oduduwa) was alive during his son’s sojourn in Igodomigodo and also when the Oyo dynasty came into being. Yoruba historians confirm that 37 Oonis reigned in Ife before Akinmoyero in (1770-1800), and that 13 more have reigned since. This enables us to prove the 1200 CE date mathematically. If from 1800 CE to 2004 CE (i.e. a period of 204 years), produced 13 Oonis on the average, how many Oonis could have reigned from 1200 CE to 1800 CE (i.e. a period of 600 years)? The answer is 38 Oonis.

The Benin Empire was a pre-colonial empire located in what is now southern Nigeria. Its capital was Edo, now known as Benin City. It should not be confused with the modern-day country called Benin, formerly called Dahomey. The Benin Empire was "one of the oldest and most highly developed states in the coastal hinterland of West Africa, dating perhaps to the eleventh century CE",[2] until it was annexed by the British Empire in 1897.

The original people and founders of the Benin Empire, the Edo people, were initially ruled by the Ogiso (Kings of the Sky) dynasty who called their land Igodomigodo. The rulers or kings were commonly known as Ogiso. Igodo, the first Ogiso, wielded much influence and gained popularity as a good ruler. He died after a long reign and was succeeded by Ere, his eldest son. In the 12th century, a great palace intrigue and battle for power erupted between the warrior crown prince Ekaladerhan son of the last Ogiso and his young paternal uncle. In anger over an oracle, Prince Ekaladerhan left the royal court with his warriors. When his old father the Ogiso died, the Ogiso dynasty was ended as the people and royal kingmakers preferred their king's son as natural next in line to rule.

The exiled Prince Ekaladerhan who was not known in Yoruba land, somehow earned the title of Oni Ile-fe Izoduwa which is now corrupt to yoruba language as Ooni (Oghene) of Ile-Ife Oduduwa and refused to return, then sent his son Oranmiyan to become king. Prince Oranmiyan took up his abode in the palace built for him at Usama by the elders (now a coronation shrine). Soon after his arrival he married a beautiful lady, Erinmwinde, daughter of Osa-nego, was the ninth Enogie (Duke) of Ego, by whom he had a son. After some years residence here he called a meeting of the people and renounced his office, remarking that the country was a land of vexation, Ile-Ibinu (by which name the country was afterward known) and that only a child born, trained and educated in the arts and mysteries of the land could reign over the people. He caused his son born to him by Erinmwinde to be made King in his place, and returned to Yoruba land Ile-Ife. After some years in Ife, he left for Oyo, where he also left a son behind on leaving the place, and his son Ajaka ultimately became the first Alafin of Oyo of the present line, while Oranmiyan himself was reigning as Oni of Ife. Therefore, Oranmiyan of Ife, the father of Eweka I, the Oba of Benin, was also the father of Ajaka, the first Alafin of Oyo. Oni of Ife and Alafe of Oyo is a Bini spoken language all the Kings title in Southerner are Edo Language. In Nigeria Edo has the greatest and rich culture and most influence in West Africa and powerful King in Nigeria.

By the 15th century, Edo as a system of protected settlements expanded into a thriving city-state. In the 15th century, the twelfth Oba in line, Oba Ewuare the Great (1440–1473) would expand the city-state to an empire.

It was not until the 15th century during the reign of Oba Ewuare the Great that the kingdom's administrative centre, the city Ubinu, began to be known as Benin City by the Portuguese, and would later be adopted by the locals as well. Before then, due to the pronounced ethnic diversity at the kingdom's headquarters during the 15th century from the successes of Oba Ewuare, the earlier name ('Ubinu') by a tribe of the Edos was colloquially spoken as "Bini" by the mix of Itsekhiri, Esan, Ika, Ijaw Edo, Urhobo living together in the royal administrative centre of the kingdom. The Portuguese would write this down as Benin City. Though, farther Edo clans, such as the Itsekiris and the Urhobos still referred to the city as Ubini up till the late 19th century, as evidence implies.

Aside from Benin City, the system of rule of the Oba in his kingdom, even through the golden age of the kingdom, was still loosely based after the Ogiso dynasty, which was military and royal protection in exchange of use of resources and implementation of taxes paid to the royal administrative centre. Language and culture was not enforced but remained heterogeneous and localized according to each group within the kingdom, though a local "Enogie" (duke) was often appointed by the Oba for specified ethnic areas.
