I love weddings! I'm fascinated about weddings. The whole drama, brouhaha and everything else in between. But I have 3 secret reasons I love it.

First of all, some brides can be outright naughty, they seem to know everything you have to say. They know what every bride should want asides what SHE wants. Oh well, customer is always right so you sit down and listen to her looong wealth of knowledge (according to her!). Then suddenly, she trys on that gown she didn't notice when she walked in, eyes wide with excitement she wonders out loud why she didn't like it in the first place. You can see it in her eyes, she can't wait for her big day. Her attitude changes instantly. She is dizzy with excitement. Are you sure it's okay (as if she didn't know). That moment is one of my priceless moments. Her excitement is infectious. You can't help but pray her marriage is filled with such excitement and happily ever after's.

My second reason is actually a nutty one. Hmm. So I try to attend weddings of my brides. I wish I could attend all, but sometimes it's just not possible. "You may now kiss the bride".. Come and see! Children of nawadayssss . Ds one is come and chop the mouth o. Ewoo ! During our days, as chineked someborri you know nau... Back to my 2nd reason. So I start thinking.. Ds children will now start doing it! You are asking me "doing what"? Me I don't know oooo.

Finally, my 3rd reason. I got married in my final year. In between writing and defending my project. I missed out planning my wedding. Every inquiry had been made. I just had to show up, size and collect. Can I even remember how I came up with my color of the day? So I guess God is compensating me for it. I now have a legit means of being actively involved in wedding preparations.

Well, that's abourrit. 3 reasons I love weddings.

Most brides start out with honest intention of losing moderate weight months before the “big day". I help them with measures to ensure they fit into their perfect gown. (Having lost more than 25kg, I think I know a thing or two. In fact scratch that! I know a lot about losing excess body weight.)

Fast forward to 3 weeks to the day and all hell is let loose. Plans and counter plans, sharing IV, meetings, appointments and reappointments, agreements and disagreements. She suddenly finds herself skipping meals, missing breakfast or lunch and then too tired to eat dinner. At last she becomes underweight. Her eyes become sunken, her waist too tiny and the dream gown becomes oversize.

Being Overweight and obese has taken front stage of weight issues, no one is talking about being Underweight. So if you find yourself in this dilemma or you just want to gain weight without compromising your health, here are practical ideas to help you out.

1. Breakfast: Consciously ensure you eat your breakfast every day. The body spends energy at night and needs to refuel hence the name break-FAST. It keeps you energized while running around for your big day.

2. Eat frequently: apart from ensuring you don’t miss breakfast, you have to deliberately eat often. Having your lunch and dinner will provide your body with energy needed to stop you from losing weight.

3. Yoghurt: This is a great way of adding healthy fat to your body. Natural unsweetened yoghurt is a good source of protein which will help you add a few inches to your waistline without being overweight.

4. Fruits & healthy snacks: snacking on fatty rich fruits and nuts like avocado, groundnut, banana and African pear can help you gain healthy weight.

This shouldn’t be an excuse to indulge in JUNK food or eat without caution. Remember to constantly monitor your weight gain as you don’t want to crossover to being overweight.

Rain, Rain! Go away! Come again another day....

What if it doesn't go away for your big day? Every bride has a legit fear it may rain on her wedding day. Just as we have sunshine, rainfall is imminent in raining season.

Do you also know in some cultures, rain on your wedding day symbolizes fertility and cleansing? So instead of having a bad feeling about getting married during this rainy season, , here are few points to help you have a smile filled Day IF it eventually rains!

1. Hire a tent:
If you want to have an outdoor wedding this period, do yourself as well as your guests a favor by getting your space covered with outdoor tent. Get canopies too for the dj, food court and drink stand. Though you can't promise everyone to be fully dry, your efforts will truly be appreciated. You could better still use an indoor HALL.

2. Discuss with your vendors:
It's a good idea to mention the fact it could possibly rain on your wedding day. Discuss ideas especially with your photographer and video crew on alternative options. Maybe having pictures indoors b4 the main event or capturing beautiful moments in the rain.

3. Be flexible with time:
Consider setting a time that will give room for more people to be in attendance in the event of rain. Here in Lagos, we know how mad it could get with traffic once it rains.

4. Make up: Wear waterproof make up or have your makeup artist on standby.

5. Umbrella: make arrangements for uniformed umbrellas for the bridal party i.e. groom, bride, bridal train and officiating ministers. In case it comes in handy, it will look beautiful in the wedding pictures. Your photographer also needs to make plans for his or her own umbrella as well as an assistant to hold it in position.

6. Souvenir: Rubber slippers, raincoats, shower caps and umbrellas are great gift ideas for your guests. They'd most likely use it immediately.

7. Transportation: Make extra provision for transportation. You don’t want the elderly and little ones left behind when it rains. The young can always find their way.

8. Don't be afraid to get wet:
Whether you bought or rented your gown, WET doesn't necessarily equate DESTROYED! Don't be too afraid of the gown that you completely forget it's your DAY! Loosen up, Relax and enjoy yourself, after all, whether it rains or not, you still get married to the love of your life.
