What if a dress could carry a story?
I started with Aso-Oke and one question: What do I want this dress to say?

I found myself drawn to African symbols, symbols that have carried meaning through generations. Strength. Wisdom. Unity. Love.
So instead of simply embellishing the fabric, we began translating those symbols onto the dress in beads, one symbol, one line, one bead at a time.

And somewhere in that process, it stopped being just an Aso-Oke dress.
It became a story you could wear.

This is what I love about creating at OVEM. A dress can be more than beautiful. It can hold meaning. It can reflect identity. It can carry a piece of where we come from into where we are going.
African stories, told through fashion.
Our heritage, reimagined through art.

THE FINAL TWO.
we created it, it became influential, it has completed its run, and now the house is retiring it.

We first unveiled this OVEM original for the AMVCAs in May. Since then, we have created a limited number of iterations in different colours and watched the design travel far beyond our atelier, inspiring several interpretations of its own.

But OVEM was never built to mass-produce an idea.
Exclusivity is part of our design philosophy. We believe a piece should have its moment, make its mark, and then make way for what comes next.

So we are officially closing production on this design.
Two final OVEM commissions are available between now and Friday next week. Once those two are booked, this design will be retired and will not be produced by OVEM again.
