Three years ago, I led my team in transforming Idera Hall at Radisson Blu Anchorage Hotel, Lagos, for a 20th wedding anniversary celebration.

Three years later, that same client referred us to her friend for another 20th wedding anniversary in the same hall.

Before the event day, the client told me,
“Once you’re done setting up, you’re not leaving. You’re celebrating with us.”

So after delivering the decor and stage design, I got dressed and returned not just as the decorator, but as an invited guest.

That kind of trust and continued relationship is never transactional.

When families celebrate 20 years of marriage, they are not simply planning an event.
They are honouring legacy.

At that level, they don’t look for just dĂ©cor.
They look for structure. Precision. Experience.
A decorator who understands the weight of the moment.

I never saw myself as a creative.

Yet, life happens while you’re busy making plans and sometimes, God has a sense of humor. 😄

I stumbled into the events industry without a creative identity. Eight years later, I’ve had the honour of leading my team in planning events for organizations across real estate, finance, IT, retail, and more.

I now understand why this path chose me. Every late night, every logistical hurdle, every moment of doubt sharpened my purpose. Every setback became a lesson in leadership, resilience, and navigating the inevitable challenges of business.

This moment isn’t just a photo, it’s a marker.

A reminder that the most meaningful journeys often start with an unexpected step and that resilience isn’t found in the ease, but in navigating what comes, learning, and rising anyway.

If you’re walking a path you didn’t fully plan, keep going.

Sometimes the detour is where you find your purpose.
