*A story named JUST BEGIN by Mentor Udoma*

Just after I received my fee structure from Olabisi Onabanjo University for my MSc totalling =N=850,000 in 2016, I met my Mum,at Ukam market in Akwa Ibom State I explained to her that I had the admission letter and she smiled. I told her however, Mum there is a problem, they need =N=850,000. She held my hands then slowly but reassuringly said, just begin my son.

To ensure her point went home, she got into hér account and gave me =N=14,000 in an account that had =N=20,000. I was touched. I added =N=16000. I paid =N=30,000 to the account and my journey to MSc began.

Today having reached the dream, I remembered the words of my mother. In everything you do always remember just begin. Just begin no matter how difficult it seems to be. It appeared to be difficult but as time lapsed I realised mum was right. At some point after my defence I gave up. I still had a solid =N=300,000 to pay, they won't give me chance for final defence. Then came a very unlikely help. I had supported a gentlelady to undertake a project evaluation two times in the year. I received her call cautiously asking me to meet her. She was carrying a brown envelope in her hand.She began: Mentor Udoma you will forgive me if you find my action inappropriate. For two consecutive times you have given me a job without asking a cent. This is very unusual with many people. I did not know how to approach you but am deep with gratitude. Please accept my small gift."

I quickly peered into the envelope and saw they were two bundles likely in hundreds. She confirmed that it was =N=200,000. I told her, "I have helped so many people, many known to me, some were my school mates who never returned a cent. God bless you. Please don't give it to me. Pay it straight to the university account.

I couldn't believe it. The words of my mother my son(Anietie) just begin rung on my head with familiarity. Don't worry how it will end, just begin. If you are building a house, just beg

Hi everyone



Imagine the following scene…



You’re sitting on a park bench one beautiful sunny afternoon when you look over at the pond nearby, and you count 5 frogs sitting on a lily pad.



All of a sudden, 1 of the frogs decides to jump off.



You look at the lily pad again - and you count them again.



How many frogs are still on the lily pad?



Well, if you’re like most people, you probably said:



“4 frogs are.”



Right?



Cause 5 - 1 = 4...



And your answer would be right...



IF this was a math question.



But this is not a math question…



The answer is actually still 5.



“What? Why?”



Because the frog that decided to jump... didn’t actually jump. It just decided to jump - in its mind.



But it was so paralyzed by fear and doubt that it never actually jumped.



“What if I get eaten by a fish?”



“What if I get lost?”



“What if I drown?”



Now you might be thinking:



"Mentor dat’s not fair. It was a trick question!”



But it’s not about the question, is it?



It’s about the lesson.



Too Afraid To Jump...



You see, most people are stuck where they are in life because they spend far too much time thinking - instead of doing.



Too much deciding - instead of jumping.



They’re plagued with thoughts like:



“What if this doesn’t work?”



“What if I’m not good enough?”



“What if I get rejected?”



They never take action. And they never realize their true potential.



Don’t get stuck in your own head. Take action. It will instantly shut off the voice in your head that’s holding you back.



Whatever you want in life, it’s all about taking action, because...



Action Drives Out Thought



Has anyone ever won a race without running?



Or gotten a job without applying?



Or gotten fit without exercising?



Yes, it’s not always clear how you’re going to achieve something when you first start - but that’s okay.



So long as you start, you’ll find your way.
