The Role of Lines
Let's go deeper and talk about lines. In architecture and in event design, lines are not drawn on paper they are experienced in space. They come from your horizontal and vertical elements, and they tell the body and the eye where to go.
Horizontal and vertical lines are derived from horizontal and vertical elements. In event spaces they can be created by both the furniture and the architecture of the venue space itself. A third dimension is dynamic lines, curves and angles.
So let's break this down: Vertical lines elongate. A striped rug or tall floral arrangement makes a small room feel higher.
Horizontal lines compress. A line of low-hanging chandeliers can bring a tall ceiling down to a more intimate level.
Dynamic lines excite. Curves and angles add movement, think of a curved aisle for a wedding, or angled seating at a seminar. They make the space come alive.
Here's the golden rule: lines guide the eye and bring harmony to our designed event spaces. So next time you walk into a venue, I want you to pause and notice: what lines already exist in the architecture? Arches? Beams? Balconies?
And then ask: how can my event decor complement those lines instead of fighting them? That's how you stop just decorating and start designing.
