Artemis II has officially set a new record for the farthest distance humans have traveled from Earth

Here are the top 5 human space journeys by distance

Artemis II (April 2026) – 4,06,771 km | Crew: Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, Jeremy Hansen | Reached the far side of the Moon, setting the all-time distance record

Apollo 13 (April 1970) – 4,00,171 km | Crew: James Lovell, John Jack Swigert, Fred Haise | Set the previous record using a free return trajectory after an oxygen tank explosion

Apollo 10 (May 1969) – 3,99,194 km | Crew: Thomas Stafford, Eugene Cernan, John Young | Rehearsed lunar landing and set record for fastest human spaceflight

Apollo 8 (December 1968) – 3,77,349 km | Crew: Frank Borman, James Lovell Jr., William Anders | First human mission to leave Earth orbit and witness the Moon’s far side

Gemini XI (September 1966) – 1,374 km | Crew: Pete Conrad, Richard F Gordon Jr. | Achieved the highest Earth orbit during the early space race

From early orbit missions to deep space exploration, each step has pushed humanity further than ever before

🚀🌊 Today’s the day — Artemis II returns home!

The crew of Artemis II is entering the final phase of their historic journey.

🔥 The Orion spacecraft will re-enter Earth’s atmosphere at extreme speeds, glowing through intense heat before a brief communications blackout.

🪂 Parachutes will deploy, guiding the capsule safely down for a controlled ocean landing.

🚀🌕 Then vs Now: The Evolution of Lunar Missions

From the legendary Apollo 17 in 1972 to the upcoming Artemis II in 2026, human spaceflight has come a long way. What’s changed over the past half-century?

🔹 Crew Capacity:
Apollo missions carried 3 astronauts—now the Orion spacecraft can support 4, expanding mission capabilities.

🔹 Living Space:
Cabin volume has increased from about 6 m³ to 9 m³, giving astronauts more room and comfort during deep space travel.

🔹 Technology & Design:
From Apollo’s compact cockpit filled with analog controls to Orion’s modern design with advanced digital displays and life-support systems—the difference is remarkable.

✨ Humanity isn’t just going back to the Moon…
This time, we’re preparing to stay.

💬 When do you think this new era will take us to Mars?

Breaking: Artemis II crew begins return to Earth after historic lunar flyby

The crew of Artemis II has successfully completed their flyby of the Moon and is now on their journey back to Earth, marking a major milestone in the mission.

Over the course of a 10-day flight, the spacecraft traveled approximately 685,000 miles (1.1 million kilometers), reaching distances farther than any human mission in history.

At its farthest point, the crew was 252,756 miles from Earth, pushing deeper into space than any astronauts before them.

With the Moon now behind them, the mission has entered its final phase. The crew is preparing for the long journey home and the critical steps required for re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere.

As the spacecraft makes its way back, each passing moment brings the astronauts closer to completing a mission that is redefining the boundaries of human space exploration.

🌍🌕✨
Earthrise… then and now — a moment that never stops meaning more.

In 1968, it was just a glimpse… a fragile half-lit world rising over a silent horizon, reminding humanity for the first time how small — and how connected — we truly are. 🌌

By 1972, it became clearer… brighter, closer, no longer just a discovery, but a realization — that everything we know exists on that distant blue sphere. 💙

And now, in 2026… it feels different again.
Not just something we see… but something we return to.

From the first time we looked back…
to the moment we find our way home again.

Because no matter how far we go, no matter how much changes…
that view will always mean the same thing —
home. 🕊️✨

Earthrise vs Earthset 💙

In 1968, Apollo 8 gave humanity its first look at Earth rising above the Moon — a moment that changed how we see our place in the universe.

Now in 2026, Artemis II shows us the opposite… Earth setting beyond the lunar horizon.

Same planet.
Different era.
One story of exploration.

Over 50 years apart — and we’re still pushing forward. 🚀

When Nigeria removed fuel subsidy in 2023, the decision was presented as a painful but necessary step to rescue the nation’s finances. Government officials argued that subsidy payments were draining public resources and pushing the country deeper into debt.

Today, Nigeria’s public debt has climbed to about ₦121 trillion, according to the Debt Management Office, while prices of food, transportation, and other basic needs continue to rise across the country

Many Nigerians now find themselves asking a difficult question:
If removing fuel subsidy saved money, why is life still so expensive?

Today on Nigeria Daily, we speak with ordinary Nigerians feeling the daily impact of rising costs, a public policy commentator on how subsidy savings are being managed, and an economist on whether removing fuel subsidy truly saved Nigeria’s economy or simply shifted the burden onto citizens.
