Bakers, please add value to your cakes.
When costing, include everything — ingredients, electricity, transportation, labor, packaging, expertise, even the little details. Don’t underprice because you’re feeling emotional or empathetic about wedding expenses.
You’ll be amazed when you arrive at the venue and see how luxurious the event looks. The couple may never remember that they begged you to reduce your price — if anything goes wrong, all you’ll hear is, “After all, I paid my money!”
Event venues that were built when cement was ₦600 per bag are now charging ₦5 million and above. Decorators charge ₦2 million and above without blinking. Yet somehow it’s always the baker expected to sacrifice their profit.
💡 Lesson: Price with wisdom. Respect your craft. Add value. Don’t apologize for charging what your cake is truly worth.
