Visa and Passport Information (South Africa)
Please note that visitors from outside South Africa who wish to travel to South Africa must have a passport that is valid for at least 30 days after the intended return date from South Africa.
All non-South African passport holders are required to have at least 2 unused visa pages for entry/departure endorsements by South African Immigration Service in their passport and passport replacing documents, each time entry is sought into South Africa. These pages are in addition to the endorsement/amendment pages at the back of the passport. South African government regulations prohibit airlines from boarding passengers without the required blank visa pages.
Minors up to 15 years of age with German citizenship can use their identity document ("Kinderausweis") to enter South Africa provided that the Kinderausweis contains a photo of the bearer and has one entirely unstamped page.

Passport requirements for non- EU Nationals visiting or departing Schengen States in the EU.
Passports of all such non- EU nationals have to be valid for at least three months after the departure date for such non-EU Nationals from a Schengen state.

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) privacy notice
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requires you to provide your full name, date of birth and gender for the purpose of watch list screening, under the authority of 49 U.S.C. section 114, the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 and 49 C.F.R parts 1540 and 1560. You may also provide your Redress Number, if available. Failure to provide your full name, date of birth, or gender may result in denial of transport or denial of authority to enter the boarding area. TSA may share information you provide with law enforcement or intelligence agencies or others under its published system of records notice. Electronic System for Travel Authorisation
Effective from 18 February 2010, all Visa Waiver Program passengers intending to travel to the United States must obtain authorisation via the Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) prior to travelling to the United States.
The Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) is an automated system that assists in determining eligibility to travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) and whether such travel poses any law enforcement or security risk. Upon completion of an ESTA application, a VWP traveller is notified of his or her eligibility to travel to the United States under the VWP.
ESTA is a web-based system. Passengers can apply for an ESTA by visiting https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/ and following instructions to answer all of the required questions. The application is submitted for travel authorisation.
Non-adherence can result in the passenger being:
denied boarding
delayed upon arrival and referred to US Customs and Border Protection for secondary inspection
required to submit an application and pay the fee associated to waive the requirement
refused admission into the United States and returned on the next available flight or vessel
System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) Fee
On August 8, 2010, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced an interim final rule that amends DHS regulations requiring Visa Waiver Program (VWP) travelers to pay operational and travel promotion fees when applying for authorization for VWP travel via the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). Beginning on September 8, 2010, most new and renewal applicants for ESTA travel authorization will be required to pay a $14 fee. This memo serves as information only. There will be no changes to the processing of VWP applicants.
The $14 fee will be charged for most applications and is required for two purposes:
ESTA processing: A fee will recover the costs incurred by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for the continued operation and maintenance of the ESTA system. This fee will be required for all new applications including the renewal of previous applications.
Travel Promotion Act of 2009 (TPA): Pursuant to the TPA, every approved ESTA application will require and If the ESTA application is denied, the applicant will be charged only for the processing of the application.
Payment for ESTA applications must be made by credit or debit card when applying for or renewing an ESTA at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/ , the following credit cards are accepted: MasterCard, VISA, American Express, and Discover. Payment may also be made with a debit card that has the VISA or MasterCard symbol. A third party, such as a relative or travel agent may pay the fees for each application. ESTA applications will not be submitted for processing until all payment information is received. CBP is continuing to explore other payment measures for the future.
All other requirements for ESTA and travel under the VWP remain the same.
South African passport requirements
South African Airways wishes to advise customers travelling to international destinations that their passports must be signed on the space provided at the bottom of the page that lists contact details. Please note that this is a requirement from the SA Department of Home Affairs to which SAA has to comply. In order to ensure a smooth and pleasant travel experience, we would appreciate your compliance in this regard.
South African Transit Visa requirements
The South African Department of Home Affairs issued an urgent directive advising all airlines and travellers of the reinstatement of the Transit Visa in South Africa. The Transit Visa requirement is effective as of 01 June 2010.
A transit visa is required for all non-visa exempt foreigners who are travelling through South Africa en route to any one of the following neighbouring countries: Kingdom of Lesotho, Kingdom of Swaziland, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mozambique. Passengers may not be accepted for travel unless they are in possession of a transit visa.
South African immigration requires all travel documents to contain at least two blank visa pages upon arrival in South Africa. This is to allow sufficient room for a visitor's permit (if required) and all entry and exit stamps.
