I attended a meeting 2011, and I heard the preacher highlight some very very ridiculous standards as pointers to what a true believer looks like. (In fact, the Man of God had restricted his people from wearing HAND BANDS).
You know, some of us who were converts came into Christianity to find out that the things some preachers highlighted were not God's standard... AT ALL.
People could not express themselves freely in many churches, not because of what The word (Jesus and the apostles) teaches but because of what the 'men-in-charge' felt.
The Pastor's bias has become a standard in the church.
Yesterday in church, we explored the difference between Church Culture and Christ Culture.
It's astonishing how many churches unknowingly promote their own traditional cultures and the G.O's exposure or lack of it... instead of the teachings of Jesus.
I'm puzzled by how some churches use external appearances, like dreadlocks, earrings, chains, as a measure of a person's spirituality.
This mindset shifts the focus from the heart of the matter to superficial standards.
To truly embody the kingdom culture, we must prioritize the teachings and principles laid out by Jesus and the apostles. We should major on the majors and minor on the minors.
While structures can be helpful, we must avoid elevating them to biblical standards.
Let's keep our eyes on the truth of God's word.
Rom.12.2 Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. (MSB)
