🧾 Recently, the Malaysian government announced the expansion of the Sales and Services Tax (SST)—effective 1 July 2025—to include a broader range of goods such as industrial machinery, imported fruits, and luxury items like silk and truffle mushrooms.

This move is part of the MADANI Government’s strategy to strengthen fiscal sustainability without burdening essential goods like food, medicine, and construction materials.

💡 This policy shift has reignited debate over whether SST is still the best fit for Malaysia—or if it’s time to revisit the Goods and Services Tax (GST), which was abolished in 2018.
