Rumah Dusun, Malay for a “House in the Orchards” is a Lawyer’s family retreat nestled in the foothills of Bukit Saji, Kampung Banggol Stol, Selising in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan. It is located on two and a half acres of land which was inherited from the owner’s family.
The idea of Rumah Dusun originated from the owner’s childhood dream of owning a house in the foothills of the village he originated from, Kampung Banggol Stol. After leaving his village at the age of 16 to further his studies, the owner had always wished to return to his roots and relive his blissful childhood experience of growing up in a village, climbing fruit trees, swimming in the stream and being at peace with nature.
This dream came true when work on Rumah Dusun commenced in 2008 and was later completed in 2011. The house stands as a unique structure combining the design elements of three Malay architectural styles which the owner had personally experienced throughout his life. From the beautiful architecture of Malay houses in Kelantan where he originated, to Negeri Sembilan where he lived and served as Judge for several years and also neighbouring Malacca.
Rumah Dusun has always served as a private family retreat but the owner wanted to share his childhood experience of growing up as a native Kelantanese with others. This has inspired him to make his house available for those who long to participate in an authentic “kampung” experience without completely giving up on modern amenities. Rumah Dusun is now available for bookings to anyone, from the single traveller looking for peace and serenity amongst the trees to families and groups wanting to bond through a shared experience surrounded by nature. The house and it’s facilities are also suitable and available for large events such as weddings, gatherings or workshops.
Rumah Dusun is privately run and managed by the owner’s family with the help of the local community.
