Sarawak, Indonesia partner to harness hydropower potential of Kalimantan’s Batang Kayan

KUCHING, July 30: The Sarawak government will collaborate with Indonesia’s PT Adaro Energy to jointly develop hydropower projects along the Batang Kayan in North Kalimantan.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced that the agreement was reached during his working visit to Jakarta on Tuesday (July 29), where he accompanied Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the 13th Malaysia-Indonesia Annual Consultations.

Sarawak leads on clean energy

KUCHING: Sarawak is showing the rest of Malaysia how governments and private sectors can work together to build a cleaner energy future, with the State already securing major partnerships for hydrogen production and green transportation projects.

“The Sarawak Government brings strategic vision, provides the policies, direction and forms the regulatory frameworks, while private sectors bring capital, technology, agility, research and development and innovation,” said Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) Chairman Tan Sri Dr Abdul Aziz Husain.

Premier: Sarawak committed to becoming major high-tech player powered by clean, sustainable energy

BINTULU (July 16): Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has reaffirmed Sarawak’s commitment to becoming a major player in high-tech industries, particularly the semiconductor sector, while embracing clean and sustainable energy to power the state’s industrial transformation.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for OCI Tokuyama Semiconductor Materials Sdn Bhd (OTSM) at Samalaju Industrial Park today, Abang Johari congratulated both OCI TerraSus and Tokuyama Corporation for choosing Sarawak as the location for their strategic investment.

Premier: No need for nuclear energy as Sarawak’s renewable mix is sufficient

KUCHING (July 15): Sarawak does not need nuclear energy as it already has abundant and reliable sources of renewable energy, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said Sarawak’s current energy mix, comprising hydropower, gas combined cycle, and solar, is sufficient to meet both present and future demands.

OTSM’s new polysilicon plant in Sarawak to set global standards

KUCHING (July 14): Sarawak is set to make Malaysia the fifth country in the world to produce semiconductor-grade polysilicon with the launch of a new plant under OCI Tokuyama Semiconductor Materials Sdn Bhd (OTSM).

The RM2 billion facility is a 50:50 joint venture between Japan’s Tokuyama Corporation and South Korea’s OCI TerraSus.
