Dr. Melissa Rachel Fok

✨About the Speaker:
Dr. Melissa Rachel Fok is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry, The University of Hong Kong (HKU), where she serves as Co-Director of the Periodontology Postgraduate Program accredited by the European Federation of Periodontology. She is also Deputy Director of the Institute for Advanced Dentistry Clinical Research Centre and Assistant Dean for Global Engagement and Development. A registered specialist in Periodontology in Hong Kong, Dr. Fok has established herself as a dedicated clinician, researcher, and academic leader. She obtained her Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degrees, followed by a Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) in Periodontology and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from HKU. She further achieved Membership in Periodontology from both the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (M Perio RCSEd) and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (M Perio RCPS(Glasg)). In recognition of her professional excellence, she was awarded Fellowship of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine in Dental Surgery (FHKAM), the College of Dental Surgeons of Hong Kong in Periodontology (FCDSHK), and the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). She is also an International Team for Implantology (ITI) Fellow, actively contributing to advancing education, research, and global collaboration in periodontology and implant dentistry.

Dr. Teng Peng Hui

✨About the Speaker:
Dr Teng obtained his dental degree (DDS) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Master of Clinical Dentistry in Endodontology with distinction from King’s College of London. He divides his time between clinical practice and teaching undergraduate students in UKM. He had contributed to several peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters in renowned endodontic textbooks such as Pitt Ford’s Problem-Based Learning in Endodontology and 3D Imaging in Endodontics. Dr Teng is one of the expert committee authors for 2 European Society of Endodontology position statements (Root Resorption 2023, Longitudinal Cracks and Fractures 2025). He has also been invited as a speaker in national or international meetings and workshops.

Lecture: Endodontic Conundrum: To Treat or Not to Treat?
Synopsis:
Endodontic diagnosis and treatment planning is not always straightforward. Inconclusive or conflicting results during clinical examination and investigation may end up with misdiagnosis, followed by improper management. This could result in performing endodontic treatment when it is not indicated or providing no (or wrong) treatment when it is truly needed.
This presentation will discuss various ‘borderline’ clinical cases and scientific evidence on some grey zones in endodontics, aiming to address the diagnostic challenges, as well as guiding clinicians to make the most suitable treatment plan for their endodontic cases.

📣SCATE 2026 SPEAKER HIGHLIGHT:
Dr. Tan Boon Tik

✨About the Speaker:
Dr Tan obtained his Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Manchester, England in 1994. Dr Tan then persued his speciality in endodontic in Australia and subsequently obtained his Graduate Diploma Certificate (Endo) and MDSc degree (Endo) from the University of Melbourne in 2001.
Dr Tan has been a dental surgeon for 31 years. He has been practising as an endodontist for the past 24 years. Dr Tan had published several clinical and research papers in local, Australian and international journals. Dr Tan lectures extensively nationally and internationally. Dr Tan was invited to lecture in international conferences in countries such as the Philippines, Vietnam, Burma, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and India.
Dr Tan was a part-time lecturer and clinical demonstrator in endodontic at the University of Malaya. He was the President of Malaysian Endodontic Society from 2014 - 2016. Dr Tan is an Endodontic clinical trainer and conducts regular Endodontic workshops for general dentists in Malaysia. Currently, Dr Tan practises as a full time endodontist in his private practice in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
