27 Years of Loops Collective
In underground music, longevity means something.
Trends come and go. Venues change. Sounds evolve. Generations move on. Yet somehow, the music continues to find its way back to the people who believe in it.
In 1999, Loops Collective started in Kuala Lumpur with a simple passion for Drum & Bass. What began with small studio sessions and a handful of people gradually grew into nights in clubs, bars and spaces around the city.
There was no blueprint. No guarantee that the scene would grow. Just a love for the music and a desire to create a place where people could come together and experience it.
Twenty-seven years later, that spirit remains.
Throughout the years, Loops Collective has witnessed and been part of the evolution of Drum & Bass in Malaysia. From the early days of jungle and breakbeats to the many different sounds that exist within DnB today, the music has continued to evolve, while the community around it has continued to grow.
Some nights were packed. Some were not.
Some moments were big. Others were simply a few people in a room, sharing the same love for the sound.
But every one of them became part of the story.
And perhaps that is what 27 years is really about.
Not the number of events.
Not the size of the crowd.
Not the names on the flyer.
It is about the culture.
The people who kept showing up. The people who discovered the music for the first time. The people who stayed through the different eras. The friendships, memories and connections made along the way.
A scene doesn't survive for 27 years because of one person.
It survives because people care enough to keep it alive.
Over the years, the DnB scene has gone through its highs and lows. Sounds have evolved, new generations have come along, and the way people discover and experience the music has changed.
Through all of that, Loops Collective has continued to be part of the journey, creating spaces for people to come together, hear the music, and keep the culture moving forward.
Twenty-seven years is a long time.
But perhaps the most meaningful part isn't simply how long Loops Collective has been around.
It's that the music is still being played, the community is still coming together, and the loop continues.
27 years of Loops Collective.
27 years of Drum & Bass.
And the DnB continues.
