We are thrilled to welcome back San Diego’s own John Magnuson for the highly anticipated Second Edition of the San Javier Hill Climb!
Representing California, John is officially locked in and ready to tackle the tarmac once again. This thrilling race marks the first of three epic events making up the 2027 Baja Tarmac Racing Championship.

• The Challenge: Charging up the breathtaking Sierra de la Giganta mountain range to the historic San Javier Mission.

SAN JAVIER HILL CLIMB 2027 | DISCOVER THE COURSE

20 km of road, 100 curves, and 500 meters of elevation gain in one of the most spectacular settings in Baja California Sur.
This is the temporary course for the San Javier Hill Climb, where car and motorcycle competitors will face the challenge of climbing toward the historic Mission of San Javier, near Loreto, Mexico.
The course features visual checkpoints every 2.5 km, communication along the route, and strategically positioned emergency services.

At Baja Tarmac Racing, the vehicle was never the most important part.
What mattered was the willingness to show up.
Because the mountain does not care whether you are a champion or a rookie.
The mountain simply welcomes those willing to try.
Perhaps that is why these events have developed such a unique atmosphere.
While many competitions end when the final trophy is awarded, something different tends to happen here. Conversations continue. Friendships deepen. Competitors return year after year. Winners eventually find themselves sharing a drink with people they first met during an awards ceremony years earlier.
The race lasts only minutes.
The friendships last much longer.
That distinction matters.
Because it explains why so many people keep coming back.
It explains why a competitor can arrive from Colorado, The UK, Ireland, Romania, California, Alberta, or Baja California knowing almost nobody and leave feeling like part of a family.
It explains why some participants began as entrants and became lifelong friends.
