Monet on our mind 🍃

Enter Room 46 of the Gallery and you’ll find a treasure trove of paintings by French Impressionist artist Claude Monet. Currently on display is 'Waterlilies', painted in 1905, which completes a group of four of Monet’s water-lily works, created between 1899 and the artist’s final years.

In this painting, the flowers and pads are painted with a degree of impasto, forming solid entities that contrast with the more thinly painted reflections of willows. The white flowers closest to the viewer are modelled with accents in different shades of purple, giving them form and depth. As the flowers recede, they diminish in both size and definition; those furthest away are rendered with simple touches of pure colour in white, yellow, pink, and red.

Until 31 August, the Gallery will remain open until 7pm daily, with late opening on Fridays until 9pm, giving visitors more time to enjoy our collection. Plan your visit: https://bit.ly/2rqMKfK
