I was incredibly lucky that during my time in Oaxaca I had the opportunity to spend four days training with Rodrigo.
Day 1 in Oaxaca City was intense! 😅 The level here is high, so Rodrigo moved quickly. It was a challenge, but exactly the kind of push I needed.
I decided to travel to Puerto Escondido for the remaining three days of his workshop, and I’m so glad I did. 🏝️🙌🏼
What I appreciated most was Rodrigo’s focus on fundamentals. Rather than simply teaching choreography, he emphasized understanding body mechanics, movement, and the principles behind each step.
He’s an incredible teacher with amazing energy, but what impressed me most was how much individual attention he gave every student. He constantly walked around the room, offering feedback and making sure everyone understood the material.
I was also fortunate to have a 𝟮-𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻 with him. I know that meant giving up time with his family, so I truly appreciated it. One concept that really stayed with me was imagining your body as water—moving with flow instead of tension. 🌊 It’s something I find myself thinking about constantly now whenever I dance. 💃🏻
Of course, the cherry on top was getting to social dance together. There’s nothing quite like stepping away from choreography and simply expressing yourself through the music.
Thank you, Rodrigo, for an incredible week of learning, inspiration, and generosity. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to train with such a highly respected international salsa instructor. 👏🏼👏🏼
It was also so nice meeting your beautiful family. Your son was absolutely adorable 🥰—seeing him patiently wait for class to finish before running into your arms every day was honestly one of the sweetest parts of the weekend 💙
Thank you again, Maestro! 🙏🏼
