This week is a little extra special. This will be Speakeasy Cocina’s final Chinese menu before our fall travel break. ✈️🍂

Our team will be traveling throughout October and November, so many of your favorite Chinese dishes won’t be back on the weekly menu for a while.

🌿🍲 SNEAK PEEK | SMALL BATCH SOUP

Every once in a while, I find an ingredient in Guadalajara that makes me think: I have to make something special with this.

This week, it’s fresh Chinese mountain yam 山藥, a treasured ingredient in Chinese home cooking that is very difficult to find here in Guadalajara. 🤍

So while I can get my hands on it, Speakeasy Cocina is preparing:

Slow-simmered pork bone broth with tender pork ribs, fresh mountain yam, red dates, goji berries and shiitake mushrooms.

🌿 Why this soup?
This is the kind of nourishing soup many Chinese families grow up with. In traditional Chinese food culture, this combination of ingredients is enjoyed to support digestion, restore energy and gently replenish the body, especially when you’re tired, busy or moving through a change of season.

The flavor is delicate, savory and naturally sweet, with mountain yam becoming beautifully soft and creamy as it simmers. 🍲

We’re traveling a little farther east this week with a brand-new dish at Speakeasy Cocina: Chingri Malai Curry, a beautiful Bengali shrimp curry simmered in fragrant coconut milk with ginger, turmeric and warming spices. Creamy and aromatic with a gentle heat, it’s a very different personality from the bolder curries you may already know and love.
