The Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) will on Saturday, 19 September 2026, launch its Strategic Plan 2026–2031 at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe from 10:30 am.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Honourable Alfred Gangata, MP, will be the Guest of Honour.

The launch will bring together government officials, sports associations, athletes, development partners, the private sector and other key stakeholders.

The five-year plan provides a roadmap for transforming Malawi’s sports sector, with a focus on good governance, increased participation, talent development, sports infrastructure, inclusion, innovation and resource mobilisation.

The strategy aims to build a vibrant, inclusive, sustainable and globally competitive sports sector that contributes to youth empowerment, social cohesion, economic growth and national development.

Day Two of the Sports Leadership Training is underway at the Golden Peacock Hotel in Lilongwe, with sports leaders continuing to engage in important sessions aimed at strengthening the governance and management of sport in Malawi.

The day has started with a presentation by the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, Mr Jameson Ndalama, on government ethics and accountability in sports.

His presentation covers key areas including:
Board vs Secretariat roles
Management roles and responsibilities
Sports constitutions
Transparency and accountability
Conflict of interest
Ethical leadership

The training continues to provide sports leaders with valuable knowledge and practical insights to promote good governance, accountability and effective leadership within Malawi’s sports sector.

The training has been officially opened by MNCS Board Chairperson, Mr Jim Kalua, who has called on sports leaders to embrace good governance, effective leadership and strategic planning in driving the development of sport in Malawi.

Officials from various national sports associations are taking part in the training, which is aimed at strengthening leadership and management capacity within the sports sector.
