Sixteen years of painting, and her first solo exhibition. The Lionel Wendt, 15th and 16th August, 9 am to 7.30 pm. Free entry.

In her words:
"The canvas is a mirror.
I stand on one side
and you on the other,
both of us waiting
for the story that surfaces."

Priyadarshani Tennakoon began in 2010 with hand-painted greeting cards. It grew into painting and stayed there. She has exhibited at Kala Pola, at the Warna Art Festival, and this year in Vivid Echoes. This weekend the walls are only hers.

Around thirty paintings. Stand with one a while. Whatever surfaces will be your own.

Priyadarshani Tennakoon's first solo exhibition opens this weekend, 15th and 16th August, at the Lionel Wendt. Free entry.

To Wait for What Appears is a body of richly textured abstract paintings, built up with a palette knife over months at the canvas. In her words:

"I paint by waiting, developing each canvas until something appears. What appears, again and again, is the light I keep finding in some shape, form, or figure.

What I do at the canvas, you do in front of it. You wait, as though we stand on either side of a mirror, until that light becomes your own."

A milestone we are proud to share! 🎉
Anuhasa's founder, Priyadarshani Tennakoon, presents her debut solo exhibition of paintings, "To Wait for What Appears", at the Lionel Wendt Art Gallery, Colombo, from the 14th to the 16th of August.

In her words:
"An artist's process is the heart of the work, and this exhibition grew out of mine. These paintings come from months of active experiment at the canvas, and of waiting, developing each one until it tells its story and something appears.

The title imagines the canvas as a mirror. I stand on one side and you on the other, both of us looking at the same moment, each waiting for the story that surfaces. What appears may be your own.

Come and stand with the work, and see what surfaces for you. See you soon."

More of the work to come over the next couple of weeks 💫
