Priyadarshani Tennakoon's first solo exhibition opens this weekend, 15th and 16th August, at the Lionel Wendt. Free entry.
To Wait for What Appears is a body of richly textured abstract paintings, built up with a palette knife over months at the canvas. In her words:
"I paint by waiting, developing each canvas until something appears. What appears, again and again, is the light I keep finding in some shape, form, or figure.
What I do at the canvas, you do in front of it. You wait, as though we stand on either side of a mirror, until that light becomes your own."
