Great thanks to everyone who gathered for a Good Mourning, to have tea with Chorong and Birthday cake with Walter. Candles were lit to remember beloved friends and family members with love and joy. It is our honor to remember and every moment is a chance to connect within and feel the presence of those we love. It was deeply meaningful to spend time together in quiet reflection and in genuine conversation. Thanks to all who made the day possible, to family and friends who came, and to our DJ for sharing very special music that resonates with the theme. It is heartening to know that we can face grief in our lives, together as a human family, by remembering, and feeling the comfort of being supported by sharing. It was a very touching reaffirmation of the sacredness of life despite the sadness of unexpected loss.

Additionally to celebrating world culture through world music 🎶 and the arts, we celebrate through world spiritual traditions. Last month the house was blessed to host a unique pilgrimage led by shaman Helena Soholm who helps people to “heal by reintroducing beauty, magic and enchantment into our lives.”

On a fine bright afternoon in a rural area, near Chungju City, I followed a group of shamanic pilgrims to see a ceremony for the first time in my stay in Korea. I was fascinated by comprehending a modern and sophisticated country in another dimension, shamanism.

An abandoned lord’s house was saved and restored into A STAGE for traditional KOREAN and WORLD MUSIC, arts, and culture to be experienced in the intimate courtyard setting of a traditional Korean house; a hanok. Between concerts, bliss out in the LISTENING ROOM; expanding your musical horizons while sipping fragrant tea with new friends ~ listen to the birds sing along with tracks from our extensive World Music Archive collection. The Music House is a HOME for gathering together in meaningful and joyful ways as a global community. Catch artists in residence offering world class concerts, lessons, and cultural immersion. Guests have the once-in-a-lifetime experience of staying overnight in our one-of-a-kind “global hanok” (a completely traditional Korean house, infused with modern amenities, and boutique artisan fixtures from around the world). Located in Chungju 충주 between the rice paddies and apple orchards; an hour and a half south of the heart of Seoul, easily accessible by car, bus, train, and bike (at the junction of two bike trails that cross the nation).
