Today, February 10, 2026, the County Assembly of Tharaka Nithi resumed sittings and dropped powerful recommendations through the Report of the Committee on Health, led by Hon. Morris Maugu. Here's what went down:
- The Assembly is calling on the County Executive to fully implement the Facility Improvement Fund (FIF) Act of 2025 within the next 90 days! This Act (passed and advanced in late 2025) empowers health facilities to collect, retain, and use their own-source revenues (like user fees) to improve services without endless bureaucracy. - Major upgrades recommended for Chuka Level 5 Hospita (our key referral facility):
- Establish a dedicated histology laborator to support cancer patients — early diagnosis saves lives! With rising cancer cases in the county, this is urgent. No more sending samples far away — let's bring critical diagnostics closer to home.
