As Mbaka, Kiongozi wa Vijana, the energy is unstoppable today! 🔥🇰🇪
Vijana na wakenya wa Tharaka Nithi na beyond, big moves happening RIGHT NOW in our devolved governance — this is how we push for better health services and hold leaders accountable! 💪
Today, February 10, 2026, the County Assembly of Tharaka Nithi resumed sittings and dropped powerful recommendations through the Report of the Committee on Health, led by Hon. Morris Maugu. Here's what went down:
- The Assembly is calling on the County Executive to fully implement the Facility Improvement Fund (FIF) Act of 2025 within the next 90 days! This Act (passed and advanced in late 2025) empowers health facilities to collect, retain, and use their own-source revenues (like user fees) to improve services without endless bureaucracy. We've seen it work wonders in counties like Kirinyaga — more drugs, better equipment, faster upgrades. No more excuses for underfunded hospitals — time to roll it out and transform healthcare delivery in Tharaka Nithi!
- Major upgrades recommended for Chuka Level 5 Hospita (our key referral facility):
- Establish a dedicated histology laborator to support cancer patients — early diagnosis saves lives! With rising cancer cases in the county, this is urgent. No more sending samples far away — let's bring critical diagnostics closer to home.
- Install an electronic queuing system to reduce long waits and congestion — imagine walking in, getting a digital ticket, and knowing your turn without chaos. Efficiency for patients, especially our mamas, vijana, and wazee!
- Additional wins from the report:
- Set up isolation rooms in every ward — better preparedness for infectious diseases and outbreaks.
- Build a larger drug store to handle expanded hospital needs — stock more medicines, reduce shortages, serve more people.
The Assembly also approved nominees for the Assembly Business Committee and passed the County Assembly Calendar for the 3rd Assembly, Fifth Session — setting the roadmap for debates, oversight, and legislation ahead. Structured sittings mean more focus on service delivery!
This is people power in action MCAs listening to reports, pushing the Executive for results, prioritizing health as a right, not a privilege. In a time when we're leveraging tech like Ziidi Trader to democratize wealth, we must also democratize quality healthcare. No Kenyan should die from preventable causes due to delayed diagnosis or stockouts!
Vijana wa Tharaka Nithi, Chuka, Maara, Tharaka — stay vigilant! Follow up on these implementations, hold your leaders accountable, demand transparency on FIF funds. If they deliver, we win; if not, we amplify the pressure.
