THE 8 TESTS OF FAITHFULNESS IN STEWARDSHIP
Many a man proclaims his own loyalty and goodness, But who can find a faithful and trustworthy man? Proverbs 20:6 AMP
Moreover, it is [essentially] required of stewards that a man should be found faithful [proving himself worthy of trust].
1 Corinthians 4:2
One of the greatest blessings any ministry can have is the blessing of faithful and loyal ministers, workers and members.
Ministry is about stewardship and the most essential requirement of stewardship is faithfulness.
A Church that is blessed with faithful stewards(ministers, workers and members) will enjoy growth and stability.
Faithfulness must be tested and proven to ascertain its availability.
The following are the tests of faithfulness in stewardship in ministry.
1. ATTITUDE TEST
Now Moses was faithful in [the administration of] all God’s house...
Hebrews 3:5
Attitude is everything in stewardship.
Someone with a wrong attitude will never make a good minister or church worker.
The wrong approach leads to reproach in ministry.
The servant with one talent in Matthew 25 was a steward with a wrong attitude. He had bitterness against his colleagues in ministry. He also was arrogant towards his leader and he allowed offence and familiarity to affect his relationship with his leader.
2. HUMILITY TEST
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Philippians 2:7-8
A proud person cannot be a faithful steward. Pride does not allow people to serve.
A proud person does not serve, a proud person only wants to be served.
3. MONEY TEST
Therefore if you have not been faithful in the use of earthly wealth, who will entrust the true riches to you?
And if you have not been faithful in the use of that [earthly wealth] which belongs to another [whether God or man, and of which you are a trustee], who will give you that which is your own?
Luke 16:11-12 AMP
Everybody's claim of faithfulness must be tested in the area of money.
If you don't give in the church you are serving, you are not faithful there.
Giving is an integral part of worship.
Where your treasure is, is where your heart is. If you don't give in the ministry your serve, it means your heart is not there.
4. FAITH TEST
So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.
Galatians 3:9
Faith is linked to faithfulness.
Faith in this case entails believing in the Pastor God has given to you and in the ministry that you are serving.
A lot of people are in churches but don't believe in the pastors of those churches.
When you constantly advertise the messages and ministries of others but not your pastor, it is an open declaration that you don't believe in him.
5. INTEGRITY TEST
Therefore, brothers, choose from among you seven men with good reputations [men of godly character and moral integrity], full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task.
Acts 6:3 AMP
There can be no effective stewardship without integrity. Lack of integrity is the bane of stewardship.
When you are privileged to serve in church, serve with integrity.
For instance, if you are the head of the technical unit and you are sent to buy a generator for the church and it costs N800,000, don't give the church a bill of N950,000.
It is a display of lack of integrity and it destroys destines.
Church money is the worst kind of money to steal because of the dire consequences.
6. DURATION TEST
They left us, but they were never really with us. If they had been, they would have stuck it out with us, loyal to the end. In leaving, they showed their true colors, showed they never did belong.
1 John 2:19 MSG
A faithful steward does not move up and down. A faithful steward is loyally committed to one course, one person and one ministry for a very long time.
7. SERVICE TEST
And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant...
Hebrews 3:5
One of the acid tests of faithfulness is service.
A faithful steward will gladly serve and not see service as servitude or slavery.
8. SACRIFICE TEST.. Be faithful to the point of death [if you must die for your faith]...
Revelation 2:10 AMP
Sacrifice is the highest proof of faithfulness.
Any claim of faithfulness without sacrifice is fake.
Conclusively, we must be faithful to God and faithful to the work of the ministry.
As ministry leaders, we must pray and trust God to bless our ministries with faithful stewards.
