Nairobi County improved on their performance at the Kenya Open by reaching the finals of 7 out of 13 weight categories in the 1st leg of the national league, compared to 4 finals at the Kenya Open, where they only won the Feather weight category through Michael Ndonga.

In Busia, Nairobi County won three weight categories. In Ladies 75kgs, Sally Ajema stopped Nakuru's Eunice Muthuni in the league's shortest bout, which lasted 36 seconds. Francis Lenox maintained his impressive form by dropping Kisumu's Martin Onyango in the Light Middle finals for his second knockout of the event. This comes after his semi-final KO of Busia's Rama Omondi. James Muhu earned a third victory for Nairobi County, defeating Kisumu's Joseph Otieno on a split decision in their super heavyweight finals contest.

In what was undoubtedly the event's slobber knocker, fans expected a brawl, and the contestants delivered. Police's Emmanuel Omollo won the Light Welter finals contest by split decision after successfully neutralizing Caleb Wandera’s pressure style of play and solid right fist with sheer grit, tactical prowess, tough jaws and resolute willpower.

Wandera, the knockout artist from flamingo City of Nakuru who in the semifinals knocked out homeboy Robert Wandera in front of his ecstatic Busia home crowd, took the offensive initiative first with the obvious goal of stopping his opponent. Wandera persisted in his quest for the deadly knockout, which ultimately proved elusive as Omollo’s quick movements and footwork was enough to dodged Wandera's vicious fist.

Omollo on the other hand put up a strong defensive strategy centering on scoring points by boxing at range, feinting, and landing effective punches to rack up maximum points. In the 2nd round, Omollo took the 8 count after coming face to fist with Wandera’s vicious right hook that sent his to the canvas which he recovered from in time.

Some disgruntled voices were overheard lamenting that the judges were unjust to Wandera, who they felt dominated the fight and should have won, as is typical in such close fights. Counterarguments suggested that Wandera was too preoccupied with trying to get KO or stoppage while his opponent was collecting points. Who won, who lost? The jury is still out but the truth shall be laid bare at the shores of Indian Ocean, the host of our 2nd leg.
