17 Years Behind Bars for a Crime He Didnβt Commit π
Imagine losing 17 years of your life, locked away from the world β all because the people you love most lied about you.
Thatβs what happened to Daniel Wanyeki, a father who was sentenced to life in prison after his two young daughters falsely accused him of defilement.
Now, after nearly two decades in Kamiti Maximum Prison, Daniel is finally free. π
In 2020, one of his daughters bravely came forward, confessing in court that they had been coached by relatives to frame their father. The motive? To kick him out of the way and take over a family estate worth over Sh50 million in Ruiru. π
On Wednesday, Daniel walked out of court a free man after a Thika court ruled there was no evidence for a retrial.
Through tears, his daughter Hannah, who had been part of the lie, apologized:
βWe were just children and didnβt understand. I hope my dad forgives us. These 17 years have been painful for everyone.β
Daniel is now close to 60 years old. After spending almost two decades behind bars for something he didnβt do, heβs finally going home. π
