Singapore Culture Seminar in Shichigahama
March 9th, 2025
Former CIR (国際交流員) from Rikuzen-Takata City, Sarah Chu, came to Shichigahama to teach about her home country Singapore’s culture. She also taught us how to play old-school Singapore games like Kuti Kuti, Flag Eraser battle, pick-up sticks, and Five Stones.

After the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, Singapore’s Red-Cross Association donated funds to Shichigahama that help rebuild Toyama “Lion Park” Nursery School and the Hamagiku After-School Club. To show gratitude for their support, we hope to continue learning more about Singapore in the future too!

Come learn about and experience Thailand’s Phi Ta Khon Festival, right here at the Shichigahama Kokusaimura!

We selected the Phi Ta Khon festival to be our first theme in a series of events which will introduce festivals from around the world. The event at the Kokusaimura will take place on April 3rd and April 4th, 2024 from 10:00-15:00 each day.

The spirit mask in this photo was made specially for our event from an artisan in Dansai of Loei Province, Thailand. The Kokusaimura’s signature water amphitheater will be transformed to look like one of Thailand’s floating markets. There will be food, performances, photo spots, craft making, a quiz rally, art installations, and Thai goods for sale.

Additionally, we are holding a photo contest to display pictures from people who have been to the Phi Ta Khon festival in Thailand. To enter the contest use the hashtag
Entry period is April 5th-21st, 2024.
