Took me a while to put this episode out, but we’re back to regular programming with this summer’s radio show: two hours of organic ambient and drones by Akie (first half) and I, up on my SoundCloud.

Akie has cultivated an ear for rare sounds since coming of age, working for collectors’ favorite record store Rare Groove in Osaka. Now based in Tokyo, she is a buyer for Newtone Records and recently released a mixtape on Bristol label do you have peace?
Her mix is an exercise in restraint, effortlessly taking you exactly where your mind needs to be.

Archived! In this month's podcast for LYL radio I am joined by Samejima-sempai 🙌 ROCKDOWN is as low-profile as he is highly regarded in the selector circuit in Japan. Having amassed a massive collection of Japanese ambient and house rarities (and some more) long before the craze took over the world, his output of podcasts (Walearic Series, NTS, Creme Organization...) is very sought after by those in the know, as is the record bible "Walearic Disk Guide" he contributed to as a writer.
His mix (first hour) gradually builds up from deep to mellow. I take over for the second hour with some more Japanese experimentalism, dub and library music.

Archived! This month's guest on The Greater Good is MITAYO from snowy Sapporo. Orbiting around legendary club Precious Hall and underground music temple PROVO, he has carved himself a place as an exceptional selector, even by Sapporo's standards. His contribution to the series is as unique and eclectic as can be. It will remind those who know of MITAYO's own place スパイスの穴ムジナ, a cosy restaurant with an excellent DJ setup. This is where he hosts "Datsuryoku Ongakukai", a party that can only be described as a listening session/house party with food, desserts, booze and a generous dose of Japanese New Year's vibes: quiet yet festive, still and joyful at the same time.
Take a moment to enjoy the afterglow of the festivities ♨

1st hour is by MITAYO.

2nd hour by moi including Laurie Spiegel, a couple of STROOM favorites, goodies from 2021 I wish I could play more, and finishing with a track by friendly local ambient artist nubo - check his album out, it's beautiful.

今回のゲストは札幌ではとてもお世話になっているMITAYOです。初めて会った日に2人で8時間程B2Bをしたという、東京にもそうそうないレベルの仲間。まったく生まれも育ちも違うのに同じセンスを持っている人に出会うと、自分自身が肯定される気がする。自分ではぼんやりとしかわからなかった自分の体験の意味がはっきりとしてくる。

そんな感じで、前半ミタヨ、後半クロエです。

Archived! So happy to have YAMA-san as a guest❄️ Starting out in 1994, she has been a buyer for Osaka's own Newtone Records since the very beginning and has been part of some of the most ambitious underground parties in Japan such as eep (with Boredoms' EYE), FLOWER OF LIFE and MUSICO 6.
Her mix (1st hour) is remarkably eclectic and beautifully disjointed, and yet it goes deeper and deeper, hooking you into a groove you're not really sure you can hear.
Second hour by moi is an improvised collage of ambient electronics and experimental cuts.
