Genemon Workshop on a quiet Sunday afternoon.
One of the places where you can see the process of porcelain making in Arita is the famous Genemon kiln. On Sundays the craftsmen and craftswomen are off but the rest of the week you can see the different phases of perfecting a piece by all the skilled workers at this kiln.
There is also a great showroom and museum on site.

Today was just a short escape from the guesthouse. I quickly visited Fukagawa Seiji around the corner from the guesthouse and I talked to some ceramic makers from Mikawachi and even Hagi.

Asagayu episode
Asagayu (rice porridge) is sold every morning during the market. Only 300 servings every day so lining up early is important. On the first day of the market the line is long and the diehard Asagayu fans are there waiting from the early hours or sometimes even the night before. However if you go on a regular day (not a holiday or weekend) then you can get there much later. Today was such a day. We got there at 5:00 but the line was still short. From 5:30 they start handing out the blue tickets that you need to buy a bowl of porridge. From 6:00 they start serving. Today after having one bowl there were more than enough tickets left to go a second time. Lucky!
Where: on the corner of the Fuda no Tsuji intersection in front of the Tozan Shrine
When: April 29th-May 5
Time: 5:30 handing out of the tickets/ 6:00 serving the Asagayu
How much: ¥600 (you get the rice bowl with that)

I had the honor of hosting this lovely guest originally from Swiss, but actually from anywhere and nowhere, since she has been travelling the world for the last four years, all she owns neatly packed in a compact backpack. She is an impressive and inspiring lady. Upon returning home today I found her letter and these wonderful plates. Thank you, and all the best on your further journeys.
