Former Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller is receiving a major double honour as Jamaica recognizes her decades of public service and historic contributions to the country.
The Western Children and Adolescent Hospital in St. James will be named in her honour
The Ministry of Labour and Social Security headquarters at 1F North Street will also carry her name
Portia Simpson Miller made history as Jamaica’s first female Prime Minister
Prime Minister Andrew Holness said the recognition is fitting and highlighted her role in helping secure support for the Western Children and Adolescent Hospital project
Opposition Leader Mark Golding described her as a trailblazer and said she deserves even more recognition
The new hospital is expected to feature:
• 220 beds
• 17 specialties and sub-specialties
• Modern operating theatres
• A 60-room staff residential facility
