Do you know what Carnival means for us?
Carnival is one of the most important seasons of our work. We work for Carnival, but for us, Carnival is not an only business is more than that.
Carnival, to us, means to connect in real life with people that we met online. You're not a simple client. You are a friend of ours. We do not like to call you the customer, but we love to address you as friends.
Carnival is meeting people from all over the world and having with them the great exchange of ideas, points of view, experiences, travels, and support too.

Our aim is, of course, make their dream come true wearing our costumes or experience our local workshop or experience such as our masquerade balls, mask decoration, and other fantastic art and activity.
We are delighted when you, guys, come to the Atelier to say hello; we have friends that every time they come to Venice, they bring their smiles and chocolates like our friends Mitch and Tom. Then we have beautiful couples Almudena and Peter that are lovely. Our friend John, Dominika, Antonella and Omar and each of you make our work exceptional.
Carnival for us is one of the most stressful periods of the year, but it is way better when we meet new people and connect with them and maintain their friendships.
Sometimes you can see us a bit tired, but we are always happy to see you.
Thanks!

MASK and CONNECTION
Do you know what is behind the masks?
We are behind masks a hard work that our boss, or better our dad had did in these years.
Behind of our masks there is a family and a business.
There is creativity, passion, tears and joy.
Behind the masks you can find us.
Behind the masks you can find yourself without hide who you really are.

We have only one store in Venice located in Calle Larga San Polo 2940/b in Venice a few steps away from the famous Frari Church.

Behind the social you will find Us Carlo, Alvise, Silvia, Nicolò and Chandra

What’s behind the mask? That’s exactly what our workshops will teach you.

Carlo Marega, the founder of our Atelier, is demonstrating the Gold leaf effect on one of our pieces.

We love the effect it gives to our masks: it gives them an extra touch of antique and makes them all ever so different from one another.

CARNIVAL IS AROUND THE CORNER
Carnival is almost here...

If you are going to visit Venice, we suggest you stop by to local stores and speak with the owners above all with artisans, because they can't wait to meet you, explain and share with you their work.

As you might know, Atelier Marega is a family business, and the man in the pictures is our dad Carlo. Sometimes (almost every day) we find him speaking alone in English or French because he is afraid to forget to speak English after all this period of lockdown...

If you pass by our Atelier in Venice, he will be more than happy to welcome you and explain something concerning the Venetian mask, the Carnival, and the Venetian lifestyle...

We are Atelier Marega :) few steps away from the famous Frari Church.

The right address is Atelier Marega, san polo 2940/b, 30125 Venezia.

How often do you interact with locals when you travel abroad?

REDENTORE

The Festa del Redentore is an event held in Venice the third Sunday of July where the fireworks create a unique atmosphere all over the city. This event is the main one during the Summer and it is probably the most loved one by Venetians, who greatly participate to it.
The Redentore began as a feast – held on the day of the Feast of the Most Holy Redeemer – to give thanks for the end of the terrible plague of 1576, which killed 50,000 people. The Doge Alvise I Mocenigo promised to build a magnificent church if the plague ended. Andrea Palladio was commissioned to build a majestic church on the Island of Giudecca. The church, known as Il Redentore, was consecrated in 1592, and is one of the most important examples of Palladian religious architecture. After the foundation stone was laid, a small wooden church was temporarily built, along with temporary bridge of barges from the Zattere, so that the Doge Sebastian Venier could walk in procession as far as the tabernacle. Afterwards, the Doge made a pilgrimage to the Church of Redentore every year.
On Saturday, the eve of the festival, fireworks are let off. Preparations begin early in the morning when people begin to decorate their boats, or the small wooden terraces on rooftops (Altane) from where they can admire the fireworks. At sunset, Saint Mark‘s basin begins to fill with up with boats of all kinds, festooned with balloons and garlands, and thousands of Venetians await the fireworks while dining on the boats. Around 11.30 o’clock at night, from pontoons placed nearby the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, the fireworks begin and Saint Mark’s basin becomes one of the most atmospheric stages in the world. The fireworks last for around 45 to 60 minutes, illuminating the night and arousing intense emotions in both Venetians and visitors.
