🎬 The Film Festival is starting today at the Monastery of San Nicolò – Global Campus of Human Rights. 📍

We start at 4:00 pm with the artistic activity ‘Handwriting the Constitution’.

🖌 This social art project was created in 2017 by the Venetian-based artist Morgan O’Hara. It invites people from all walks of life to meet in public spaces to handwrite documents written to protect human rights and freedoms. Today we will handwrite the *Convention on the Rights of the Child*.

✊🏻 The main goal of this experience is for people to know their rights and deepen their understanding of laws that protect them. Morgan describes it as ‘activism for introverts’.

You are all welcome to join! 🤗

We are pleased to present you the three documentaries that will be screened during the EMA Human Rights Film Festival.

🎬 ‘Alone’ by Jafar Najafi follows the lives of Amir and his sisters, Marzieh and Razieh, in rural Iran. After the death of their oldest sister, Amir is asked to authorize the marriage between one of his younger sisters and their brother in law. This film reflects on the pressure that tradition and social norms can have on our lives.

🎥 ‘Writing With Fire’ by Sushmit Ghosh and Rintu Thomas tells the story of the journalists running the newspaper Khabar Lahariya, the only news agency in India run by Dalit women. These courageous women defy tradition and redefine democracy, equality and power in a politically, socially and technologically evolving India.

🎬 ‘Into My Name’ by Nicolò Bassetti tells the story of a group of friends who have embarked on the gender transition. Four different paths intersect between childhood memories, sensations, traumas, conquests and the affirmation of an identity in the making that resists stereotypes about masculinity and institutional and social obstacles.

All movies will be screened with English subtitles.
