The World of WearableArt (WOW) Awards Show is New Zealand’s single largest theatrical production and a not-to-be-missed annual event for an audience of around 60,000 people. At the heart of each theatrical spectacular is a coveted competition for designers across the world working in radical and innovative ways in the mediums of fashion, art, design and costume. Their incredible works of wearable art come to life on stage as part of the six different worlds that make up each year’s WOW Show.
The Show is an extraordinary fusion of world-class dance and theatrical performance, stirring music that takes you through a magical soundscape, visual projections and larger than life backdrops.
In 2020, Show Director Malia Johnston is back, teaming up with more creatives and guest artists than ever before who are crafting a show which will be a true explosion of multiple artforms. Expect to journey through a world inspired by the Elizabethan Era, find yourself mesmerised as the stage explodes in a visual symphony of colour in the Monochromatic world, and be amazed as we see the human body used as an architectural canvas in the Architecture Section. Sitting alongside these worlds are three other distinct sections: Avant-garde, Aotearoa and Open.
