🇮🇹 Questi due giorni sono stati a dir poco all’insegna dell’energia: quella impressa sui pedali, quella del tifo lungo il percorso, quella dei nostri volontari pronti a supportare ogni partecipante, e anche quella del nostro partner Dolomiti Energia, che ci permette di far sì che weekend come quello appena passato possano diventare ogni anno realtà ⚡️

La storia di Marcialonga nasce un po’ per caso e un po’ per scommessa, quando quattro amici, Mario Cristofolini, Giulio Giovannini, Roberto Moggio e Nele Zorzi, appassionati di sci di fondo, parteciparono alla più famosa Granfondo al mondo, la svedese Vasaloppet. Al termine di quella impresa sportiva iniziarono a sognare una gara simile nella loro terra, in Trentino, tra le valli di Fiemme e Fassa. Lo scetticismo non mancava verso quello che per molti era ritenuto un azzardo, ma grazie alla perseveranza e al coinvolgimento fin da subito di tanti volontari, il 7 febbraio 1971 vide la luce la prima edizione della Marcialonga
La Marcialonga piace proprio per la sua tradizione, per il calore della gente che accoglie con entusiasmo il passaggio dei concorrenti, per una pista che transita nel cuore di molti paesi, per l’inimitabile panorama che solo le Dolomiti sanno regalare.
Al via ci sono ogni anno sciatori professionisti e amatori di tutti i livelli, compresi i cosiddetti “bisonti”, un termine che è stato coniato proprio per la Marcialonga. Fra di loro i Senatori, leggende che hanno partecipato e concluso tutte le edizioni.
Nel tempo sono nati eventi collaterali dedicati a giovani e ragazzi (Marcialonga Baby, Minimarcialonga, Marcialonga Young), agli ospiti (Marcialonga Stars), e un revival dello sci (Marcialonga Story).
Gran parte della pista di sci di fondo corre lungo la ciclabile di Fiemme e Fassa che costeggia il torrente Avisio. Il suo aspetto pianeggiante e la bellezza del paesaggio fra prati, boschi e masi di montagna, ha spinto il comitato organizzatore a creare una versione podistica la Marcialonga Coop.
Le caratteristiche del territorio, le Dolomiti, non potevano non portare Marcialonga ad avvicinarsi ad un’altra disciplina sportiva, il ciclismo. Tra queste montagne, infatti, il Giro d’Italia ha visto più volte sfilare i propri campioni, affrontando alcune delle salite epiche della propria storia. E su queste salite dal 2007 passa la Marcialonga Craft, la Granfondo per gli amanti delle due ruote.
ENGLISH VERSION
The idea of the Marcialonga goes back a long way. In 1969 Italian athletes officially took part in Vasaloppet for the first time. Giulio Giovannini and Roberto Moggio managed to cross the finish line and the year after they were followed in the expedition by Nele Zorzi and Mario Cristofolini. As enthusiasm mounted, there came the idea of creating something similar in the two valleys of Fiemme and Fassa, adding typical Italian warmth, seasoned with lots of imagination to the exertion of covering such long distances.
Here in the Italian cradle of cross-country skiing, the four founders were supported by a determined team of collaborators later to be joined by new volunteers.
But what should it be called? In the end the name “Marcialonga” or Long March was chosen as it was felt to neatly encapsulate the idea of the hard work and friendly competition of the athletes as well as the involvement of the spectators of such great event.
On 7th February 1971, the Fiemme and Fassa valleys heard the echo of the gun shot which signaled the start of the first Marcialonga, destined to revolutionise the history and traditions of skiing.
Both professional and amateur skiers are at the start every year, and participants of the last groups are jokingly called “bisonti” (bisons). Among them the Senators, who took part in all the editions of Marcialonga.
Year after year, different events were born, starting from those dedicated to children and youths, the charity race for guests, the revival of the past with old equipment, all surrounded with fair play and sportive and joyful spirit.
Part of the Marcialonga track is on the bike path of the Fiemme and Fassa valleys, along the Avisio river. The course is semi-flat and runs through the green fields and the wood in the amazing landscape of Dolomites. In 2003 the Committee decided to try another discipline, organising a summer version of Marcialonga, the Running race Marcialonga Coop.
The climbs of the Dolomite mountains are considered “epic” by the cycling champions and pro, that is why the Giro d’Italia is often passing in the home of Marcialonga. To give this opportunity also to amateurs, the Committee has organised, since 2007, the road bicycle race Marcialonga Craft.
